Minas Gerais entrepreneur Sabrina Nunes, 31, is the name behind Francisca Joias, an e-commerce that earned BRL 6 million in 2017 and has several resellers throughout Brazil. Before getting where she is, Sabrina started with very little and even worked as a cane cutter.

History

Born in Itinga, in the north of Minas Gerais, the daughter of illiterate parents, the young woman studied and graduated in Social Work. However, the lack of job opportunities in her city made Sabrina follow with her stepfather and other residents to Maracaju (MS) in search of work to cut sugar cane. In an interview, she says: “I was cutting sugarcane, I saw the engineers arriving and they earned 5,000. And my dream was to win that. So I started to think: what do I need to do to earn this amount?”

Start of entrepreneurship

Sabrina was determined to study engineering because she believed that in that profession she would achieve the success she so desired. She joined the University through the PROUNI (University for All Program) process. The position won went to a university in Rio de Janeiro. Sabrina moved and everything was going well with the course until the day she read in a magazine that a woman had made 5,000 reais selling products on the internet. So she thought: “that’s it, I’m going to set up a store on the internet”.

Sabrina was afraid because this amount was too high for her, since she only received a minimum wage. But in the end she ended up accepting it, and that day she managed to sell 5 thousand reais. From then on, she decided to drop out of the college she was studying, quit her job and dedicated herself to building her e-commerce.

One year after the start of sales on the platform, in 2012, Sabrina decided to create her own e-commerce, Francisca Joias (name given in honor of her grandmother), which today is the largest e-commerce for contemporary jewelry in Brazil, and produces your own parts.

The businesswoman celebrates the increase in the number of customers and in revenue. Its goal is to grow 10% a year, but it is now the fourth consecutive year that it has managed to exceed that goal. The success of Francisca Joias, according to her, is also related to the attention given to customers. An example is that the store sends the product in a personalized box with an exclusive fragrance and an affectionate note.
