The amazing 93-year-old Italian lady who won the hearts of thousands of people for her acts of kindness

This charming grandmother from the Italian city of Venice is called Irma and is 93 years old. But advanced age is definitely not an obstacle to doing your part to improve the world. Dona Irma’s story became famous around the world after her granddaughter, Elisa, published the following story on her Facebook profile.

Elisa, the granddaughter, told on Facebook how Dona Irma decided to face a long and tiring journey, not to enjoy her vacation on a paradisiacal beach, but to work as a volunteer at an orphanage in Kenya🇧🇷

According to Elisa, grandma always loved life and never gave up in the face of obstacles. She knows that life is not easy and, therefore, she has always helped the people around her with whatever she could. Dona Irma became a widow at age 26, with three children. Years after her husband’s death, she still had toovercome the sadness caused by the death of one of the children🇧🇷 But she faced it all alone and with her head held high.

A few years ago, fate placed her in front of a priest named Remigio, a missionary who has spent a good part of his life in social projects in Kenya. Dona Irma supported him for many years. Don Remigio, one day, got sick and ended up in a hospital in the African country, which increased, in the grandmother, the already existing desire to go to Kenya. Finally, his wish came true.

In the African country, Grandma Irma helps children in many ways. For example, teaching English and Mathematics at a school in the city of Malindi. She also brought yarn, needles, glue and other craft items from Italy to teach the little ones how to decorate gift boxes and postcards.

Dona Irma’s love for life and her enormous energy are capable of inspiring anyone. For her, age is by no means an excuse to face life and, if necessary, go on a long journey. Despite all the difficulties, she continues to live life. And best of all, she does it by helping people.

Grandma only plans to stay in Africa for a few weeks. But, by all indications, she will stay there for a few more years (and we hope she lives many more to continue).

This incredible lady also transmitted her example and desire to help people to her children and grandchildren. In 2016 and 2017, Elisa herself (the granddaughter who told the story on Facebook) decided to help Syrian refugees in Greece. Dona Irma’s gestures inspire thousands of people who leave their comments about her on social networks.

Grandma Irma’s work is an example for all of us. Why, for virtue, altruism and courage, there are no obstacles. It is never too late to perform acts of kindness and generosity.
