Test reveals what’s between you and your partner: love or passion

A group of American researchers led by Sandra Langeslag, from the University of Maryland, says that true love is made of two parts: passion and affection. In some couples, one of these emotions is stronger than the other. And with the help of 20 short questions, it would be possible to determine which category your relationship is in and if it is really serious.

The scholars conducted a survey among Dutch and Americans. The answers given by 560 people aged between 18 and 55 years were analyzed. It was from there that the experts defined the nature and level of solidity of the relationships.

In each sentence, put the name of your loved one. Then, next to the name, place a note for each sentence on a scale of 1 to 7, where 1 represents “strongly disagree” and 7 means “strongly agree”.

For example, in question 1: “My gaze goes far when I think of (insert the name of your loved one)”. And beside, for example, 7, if you totally agree.

Now, you must add the points separately for the first group of answers: 1, 3, 6, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, 17, 20🇧🇷 And calculate the amount of points for the second group of answers: 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11, 13, 15, 18, 19.

The first group of answers shows the level of passionwhile the secondO affection level between the couple. You can compare your results with those obtained by the researchers.

If the passion indicator is between 40 and 45 points, and it is close to the affection indicator, maybe you’re not even living a relationship with that special person yet, just dreaming about it. At the beginning of a relationship, the proximity between the indicators of passion and affection suggests that the situation is still very unstable. It is likely that you are in love, but this is not true love. At any moment, this passion can disappear.

If your crush level is hovering between 20 and 30 points and your affection level is higher than 50, it indicates that you and the crush have been seeing each other for a long time, or maybe even living together. If this number of points has to do with a relatively new relationship, it is because a strong bond has begun to emerge between you. And that’s a great sign.

If your passion score is around 20 and your affection score is around 60, chances are you are married or have been living under the same roof for a long time, sharing your life as a couple. Those at the beginning of the relationship rarely have this score. But if you are among the lucky ones, celebrate! Your love is true and will survive any storm.

The experts realized that the True love is born between people when, gradually, the level of affection increases and the level of passion decreases. A couple with this characteristic can last a long time, as the feelings are not based on a fleeting attraction for the other, but on a deep affection between the two people.

Obviously, it’s important that the passion level doesn’t drop so low that it drops to zero. Otherwise, the relationship can turn into a friendship, with no romantic component. This usually happens between elderly couples who have been together for decades. However, among young people who have been dating for a short time, it would no longer be normal.
