This is the proposal of DermalAbyss, a kind of tattoo ink that has biosensors capable of interpreting changes in the body, such as blood levels of glucose and sodium. The novelty was developed by researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard University, both in the United States.

Scientists have already developed three different inks. One of them varies from pink to purple according to the pH of the blood; the other takes on a more vibrant shade of green if the sodium rates greatly increase; and the third is the one that measures glucose in a color that goes from blue to brown as the sugar levels rise. This last one is the one that has made the most noise, since it could mean, in a while, the end of the daily injections to measure insulin – routine of those who have it. diabetes.

If you were excited about the invention, calm down! Tattoos are still being studied in the laboratory and, until they are applied to humans, they need to go through the testing phase on animals. “It will take a long time to reach the market, but the technology stimulates the imagination and opens up possibilities”, commented Xin Liu, one of the authors of the study, to the American TV channel CBS News.
