Saint Anthony’s Novena is recommended for blessings and love

He is known as the “saint matchmaker”, for helping to find lost objects and as a protector of the humble and animals. Do you know who we are talking about? A novena of Saint Anthony It is famous for asking for help, protection, blessings and opening paths.

How to make the novena to Saint Anthony?

The ritual can be done whenever you feel the need. Many people have the habit of starting on June 4th and ending on the 12th, the day before their liturgical feast. Others prefer to start on June 13th, the date of his death in 1231.

Regardless of the date, look for a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. If you want, you can light a candle and/or incense to help with the connection. Sit comfortably and take deep breaths until your body and mind feel relaxed. Read the opening prayer and the prayer indicated for the day (there are nine days). Then, it is time for three Glories to the Holy Trinity, the repensory and the final prayer.

Think or speak your desire. Give thanks from your heart and have faith that, if it is for your good, it will happen. Check out the novena of Saint Anthony:

Opening Prayer

“Beloved protector, Saint Anthony! Here I am, at your feet, fully trusting in your powerful intercession. Look at me with that spirit of sweet and tender compassion with which you looked at the poor. Poor I am yours, my Saint! I see myself full of misery.

Life for me is a continuous struggle. Bread of happiness, of joy, of health and peace, of virtue… how much I need your loving protection! Listen to me, I humbly ask you, so that your name as Thaumaturge may be glorified again. I believe in your power, in your goodness; I love your fatherly heart and I bless our Lord, who made you great on earth and in heaven. Amen.

Oh! Star of Spain, pearl of poverty, light of Italy, Doctor of truth, Sun of Padua, resplendent in signs of clarity. Amen.”

1st day – The admirable faith of Saint Anthony

“The life of the Holy Wonderworker is a continuous preaching of the Christian faith. For her, very young, he longed to shed his blood in the sight of the Franciscan martyrs of Morocco. Through her, she gave herself completely to God in a holy and perfect life of evangelization, which was astonished by the world, rich in talents and wonders. What life of faith is mine?”

2nd day – The hope of Saint Anthony

“The Saint loved this virtue vividly. A life of sacrifices, in constant struggle against hell, the world and passions, would be impossible without great hope; He had great confidence in divine goodness, in the paternal Providence of God and in the constant help of his grace… That is why the saint never faded in his life of incessant and painful effort. He counted on God! Let us humble ourselves and rely not on our strength, but on divine strength, hoping in God.”

3rd day – Divine Charity of Saint Anthony

“He dedicated Saint Anthony to Seraphim of Assisi, Saint Francis, a particular love. He was certainly not unaware that, as his good son, he was another Seraphim of charity. Who can guess the tenderness of his love for Jesus? That scene in which the Child God recreated in the arms of the Saint can serve to make us guess at his ecstasies, his seraphic tenderness… What an example for me, miserable thread and poor sinner.”

4th day – Fraternal Charity of Saint Anthony

“Here I am, a Saint, whose life was a holocaust of love for men. It can be said that the whole of it was nothing more than a caress to poor sinners, to the sad sick, to those tormented by the darkness of misery… and so much pleasure should the Saint have found in this fraternal love for his fellow men, that not even death interrupted him! Today, as in life, he continues to shower us with the same caresses… May his example move me to compassion for the unfortunate!”

5th day – Purity of Saint Anthony

“It is not in vain that the Saint carries a lily in his hands… He was a lily of the Church. The devil wanted to stain his body and soul with his filthy drool, but the Saint guarded his purity like a treasure; he defended it with an austere and impenetrable belt of silices, vigils, disciplines, prayers, work… What do we do to guard the purity of our body and soul?”

6th day – Humility of Saint Anthony

Also in this Saint, and in a unique and wonderful way, the saying of Jesus Christ was fulfilled: “He who humbles himself will be exalted.” He hid himself like a violet; He sought retreat, silence and, endowed with the highest wisdom, he kept it hidden and only obedience can open with its key to those powerful talents that made Saint Anthony the Ark of the Testament… How many goods our pride deprives us of!

7th day – Poverty of Santo Antônio

Born on a golden bed, before the smiles and riches of the world, Saint Anthony embraces the poor Franciscan Order… He becomes the son of the one married to the lady Poverty, Saint Francis, and, like him, follows her through briers and thorns, privations and sufferings, content with his painful and sweet caresses… His detachment from the world made him rich in heavenly goods. He exchanged the gold of the earth for the priceless gold of divine love. Let us detach ourselves from earthly goods, if we truly want to save ourselves!

8th day – Obedience of Saint Anthony

Obedience is the death of one’s own will, and when man kills it, he has killed his greatest enemy. The divine will, manifested by the legitimate Superiors, then works wonders in souls. Saint Anthony was very obedient. He was so obedient that his act of obedience passed him off as ignorant, but we must know that this was a new Doctor of the people… Obey, humble your self-love and God will exalt you!

All suffering, in any of its manifestations, the pain of sin, the loss of health and the scarcity of resources, the unjust persecutions, the absence of peace, the great worries, the great sadness… how much they can torment the soul! Everything was a reason for compassion for the saint, it was the subject of his miracles, it was a reason for his mercy… What was hidden or hidden from his compassionate heart? Let us therefore turn to him with great confidence.

Glory to the Holy Trinity (read three times)

“Glory to the Father, to the Son, to the Holy Spirit Just as it was in the beginning. Now and ever. For all ages of ages, amen. Amen.”

Repensory

“If you desire miracles, turn to Saint Anthony;
you will see the devil and infernal temptations flee.

The lost is recovered, the harsh prison is broken
and at the height of the hurricane the angry sea gives way.

All human evils moderate, disappear,
let those who saw it say it, and let the Paduans say it.

The lost is recovered… through his intercession the plague, error, death escape,
the weak become strong and the sick become well.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit…

V. Pray for us, blessed Anthony,
A. So that we may be worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray: O God, we beseech you, to bring joy to your Church in the votive solemnity of Blessed Anthony, your Confessor and Doctor, so that, always strengthened with spiritual aid, it may deserve to enjoy eternal pleasures. By Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen.

Final prayer

“Happy, Lord, your Church devotes the humble prayer of the glorious Saint Anthony, your servant, so that we may always be helped in this life with the help of grace and deserve to obtain later the eternal joys of glory. Through Our Lord Jesus Christ, who with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns forever and ever. Amen.”
