Problems with We Transfer? The reason why you can't download files

WeTransfer is an Internet computer file transfer service based in the Netherlands. The company was founded in Amsterdam by Rinke Visser, Bas Beerens and Nalden. In October 2018, WeTransfer relaunched its app under the name “Collect by WeTransfer”. In May 2020, India banned the WeTransfer app, citing security reasons.

What is it? WeTransfer offers a free service where users can send up to two gigabytes of files, and a paid option, called WeTransfer Plus, where users can send up to 20 gigabytes of files. WeTransfer Plus also allows users to add passwords to files.

Can't download files? This is the reason.

An email campaign detected that impersonates WeTransfer and WhatsApp to install a virus

He National Cybersecurity Institute (Incibe) has detected a new email campaign that impersonates companies such as WeTransfer or WhatsAppwhose messages contain links that download a trojan on the device.

The message urges the user to click on a link using different arguments, as reported this Wednesday by Incibe in a statement. To provoke the user's interest, topics such as “Backup of WhatsApp messages ×913071605 No. (xxxxx)” and “He sent you some files – No. (xxxxx)” appear, although It is not ruled out that there are other emails with different topics, but with the same objectiveincite the recipient to download a malicious file under some pretext of interest to them.

“If you have not run the downloaded file, your device may not have been infected. The only thing you have to do is delete the file that you will find in the downloads folder. You should also send the email you have received to the trash,” they have indicated from Incibe. On the contrary, it has warned that those who have downloaded and executed the malicious file may have infected their device and has recommended scanning it with an updated antivirus.
