Precept in Umbanda: protection, primordial, occasional and more!

Many religions and beliefs have specific precepts to reach some grace, raise energy, connect with the superior plane and the signs it sends. In Umbanda, there are precepts that are voluntary abstentions to make the being positive or negative, as well as those that must be fulfilled by mediums.

These precepts are divided into three groups that you will get to know as you continue reading this article. . Check out all the details!

The primordial precept is the one that becomes obligatory and indispensable for mediums who are preparing for the spiritual and mediumistic work of the terreiro sessions. It has several restrictions and abstentions that must be fulfilled so that the person can have a cleaner and purer body to carry out his work and serve everyone with quality and efficiency.

There are several fundamental precepts and each terreiro or spiritist center can adopt them according to beliefs, customs, work to be carried out and needs that must be met. Learn more about them in the topics below:

Doing sex protection is also energy saving. The sexual act requires a very intense exchange of energies between those who perform it, therefore, until the person can recover and return to their own energy, it takes a long time. It is recommended that, at least, for 8 hours before the mediumistic work, no sexual practices are performed.

Thus, the energetic mixture does not interfere with the connection between the medium and the spiritual guide and his work can be carried out without interference or mixtures of energies that do not belong to that person.

Food of animal origin, more precisely meat that depends on slaughter, brings with it all the feelings of fear, anguish, pain and suffering. Therefore, this is one of the abstentions cited as essential in Umbanda, so that these energies do not mix with good and pure energies and interfere with the spiritual work that will be carried out.

There is also the issue of these foods and even drinks grounding the person due to the energies they carry with them, causing the medium to have to deal with a very strong conflict of energies within himself, making it more difficult to work and carry out the practices of the terreiro. , so it is recommended to stay at least 24 hours without ingesting food of animal origin.

Keeping your health and body healthy is paramount, but thoughts and psychology must also be in good condition, as they are the ones that carry and move much of the human body’s energies, attracting situations, feelings and achievements. Therefore, for a medium to work lightly and fluidly with his energy, it is necessary to ward off bad thoughts.

To achieve this feat of removing bad thoughts, you need to firm up, do a “decompression” preparation, disconnect from the world and problems for a few moments before starting the practice, bring to your thoughts the healing and health you want to emanate. to take care of those in need and thus stay positive.

The color white is closely related to Oxalá, regent of faith in Umbanda, and that is why it is traditionally common to see people wearing white clothes to work in terreiros and carry out their practices. White clothes are therapeutic, they help the medium’s work and, therefore, when except for parties and celebrations, they are always used in practices.

This is a way of contributing to the medium being able to concentrate, attracting good thoughts, energies and fluids, bringing them closer to the creator of the world. It is worth mentioning that these clothes and attire should only be used in rituals and work, daily use being strictly prohibited.

Each of the mediums has their own unloading bath, which helps in cleaning, connecting, raising energy and has a correlation with their greater Orisha, so it is necessary that the bath be taken before the beginning of practices and work.

The closer to the terreiro’s spin time, the better. This is because it assists in the initiation ritual, connection and transition. But if for greater reasons it is not possible, up to 12 hours before it is valid to have the bath taken. So, for those who work, it is possible to take the designated bath before going to the office and then go to fulfill your spiritual obligations.

The cute ones have a scheduled time to start, even before the mediums arrive at their posts to start the assistance and care. So, punctuality is a primordial precept, which demonstrates respect for everyone involved, including the guides who prepare themselves in the spiritual plane to work here on Earth.

Being present in body, mind and spirit is one of the main precepts. Therefore, surrendering to a tour or spiritual work is very important, without other scheduled appointments, time to leave or other concerns. This is a practice that makes all the difference in the assistance provided by the guides, in the concentration and flow of energy.

For those who are mediums, it is necessary to think that entities and guides carry out some rituals and practices, which can get dirty and/or the clothes you are wearing and your hair. This is also an important detail for surrendering and letting go of worry.

Optional precepts are those that serve as an exception for some mediums, according to their preparation for spiritual work, or their greater Orisha, in which case restrictions are applied that can be seen in everyday life and inserted in that person’s routine.

Therefore, some of the mediums must carry out, in addition to all the topics of the primordial precept, these other preparations that may be indicated by their Mother of Saint, head of the terreiro or spiritual guide, according to the needs identified.

It is not common to see people who go to be assisted adhering to optional precepts, but some perform them willingly, to raise their own vibration. Learn about the optional precepts as you continue reading:

Some mediums cannot consume any type of food that has animal origin, that is, milk, eggs, butter, cheese, among others, must be avoided 24 hours before the tour takes place. This can happen to further intensify the purity of the physical body and the connection with the entities, as well as a restriction of your greater Orisha.

Just as food of animal origin can be linked to the medium’s greater Orisha, the bath can also have herbs and other compositions that are specific to open and intensify this connection.

Certain types of tours and / or spiritual work that will be carried out may also need more intense unloading baths. Baths that can be requested after the end of the tour, to clean and open the paths of those who were present.

The guardian angel’s firmness is a simple ritual to perform before the opening of the works, and serves to bring even more protection to the mediums, the assisted (people who consult with the guides) and the team that assists throughout the tour.

Although practiced by many terreiros and spiritist centers, there are special requests for works that are more dense or for mediums who deal with more serious and heavy cases, which accumulate dense and negative energies. Therefore, the guardian angel’s help is requested through a lit white candle.

When we talk about an occasional precept, it is an emergency request, which can be requested even after the completion of the spiritual work. It serves to help the medium and the person being assisted by him, and can be performed by both or just one of those involved.

These precepts have several reasons for happening, but among them, the main ones are greater concentration on solving the problem, improving and increasing connection and faith, and cleaning the dense energies that may have accumulated for various reasons, in addition to providing good -be. In some heavier cases or involving situations of low energy, obsession and involvement of people who wish evil, the guardian angel’s firmness is requested both for the medium and for the person being treated.

To carry out this firmness, many terreiros only indicate the lighting of a white candle and a prayer of the Our Father, mentalizing protection and deliverance from problems. This ritual can be requested frequently or just to carry out the session or to finish a cycle.

As in other temples and churches, the terreiro needs rules and order so that the spin flows in the right way and the mediums can work with quality, which is why, in many places, a vow of silence is required from those who go to be attended or accompany the spiritual work. In this way, everyone is focused and improves their connection with the Divine.

The Orisha Tempo is represented by the Iroko tree and, when invoked to appear in an umbanda tour, it means that mediums need a solution to a problem that is difficult to solve or a very delicate situation that requires the intervention of a superior being who have wisdom to solve adversities as soon as possible.

Iroko is also a representative of ancestry, for being the first tree planted on Earth and which gave rise and passage to all other Orixás, so when something exceeds the power of the other guides, he is called to resolve it. It could be said that he is the leader of all the holy tree spirits.

In order for the tour or spiritual work to happen smoothly, with good energies and to be fluid, it is necessary to mentalize the Divine Nazarene and ask Him for wisdom, help from the Superior Astral and that He guide all mediums to take care of those who need help. .

It is also mentalized and requested to the Divine Nazarene the revocation of the normal precepts and the blessing to continue with the tour normally. This is a sign of respect and a form of protection for everyone who will be present.
