Saint Joseph of Cupertino (1603 – 1663) is the patron saint of students with difficulties. Born in Italy, he felt the call to religious life and the priesthood, but he had great difficulty learning and was illiterate. When it came to testing, he asked Our Lady for help. After praying to be guided in an oral test, for example, he was asked to explain precisely the only excerpt from the Gospel that he, in fact, knew: “Blessed are the bowels that brought you”. In this way, he managed to become a priest.

Prayer to Saint Catherine for students

Santa Catarina (287 – 305) is also considered the patron saint of students, as well as philosophers and teachers. In Alexandria (Egypt), she angered the Roman emperor Maximino Daia, who persecuted Christians, by stating that his God was the only one and his king was Jesus Christ. He arrested her and brought 50 wise men to humiliate her in a debate, but she did so well in her statements and arguments that she converted them all to Christianity. The emperor became frustrated, arrested and tortured her, ordering her to be beheaded.
