The Significance of Pluto in Natal Astrology

Astrologers know that Pluto is a giant in terms of its influence on the natal chart, although it has been downgraded from a planet to a “dwarf” by astrologers. I have personally come to know its power by viewing it in my own natal chart, as opposed to my Sun, and also in the horoscopes of others, through the medium of astrodrama (a technique in which a group of people play the roles of the planets in the natal chart of a Person).

Pluto is the Roman god of the underworld. He’s all about digging deep to find the hidden things. People under strong Plutonic influence may be involved in the mining or oil industry, research in any field, or deep psychology.

Pluto often refers to taboo subjects such as sex and death. When he gets to the bottom of things, he becomes the planet of truth, forcing us to confront the parts of ourselves we choose to hide.

Like the fires that rage beneath the surface of the earth, it can urge us to self-destruction. However, this dark space underground is also a place of transformation. It is where the seed germinates to come to life above ground. The ancient Egyptians envisioned the night sun as the beetle Kephera, struggling through the darkness with its eggs rolled into a ball of dung, toward its triumphant rebirth as the sun rises over the eastern horizon.

The Significance of Opposition in Natal Astrology

The opposition aspect when two planets face each other in the natal chart is often misunderstood. Although it can be a “hard” aspect, it is radically different from the totally hard aspect of the square.

Two opposites represent the principle of polarity. You can react to each other in three different ways.

They can cancel each other out and leave nothing in place, like water extinguishing a fire, but evaporating in the process.

They can conflict and destroy each other, as in the explosion that occurs when strongly alkaline ammonia gas is mixed with strongly acidic concentrated nitric acid.

Finally, they can work synergistically, as in the case of a battery, when the opposition of positive and negative terminals (anode and cathode) produces usable energy.

The third path of synergy is what we seek when trying to deal with opposing planets in our horoscopes.

What does Sun versus Pluto mean to me?

An opposition between Pluto and the Sun in a natal chart can manifest itself in different ways. First of all, it is affected by the houses these planets are placed in. Houses will determine the areas of life where opposition is most likely to express itself.

Second, if these beings are in aspect with any of the other natal planets, it will also affect the quality and nature of their interaction.

Third, the relationship between the opposing Sun and Pluto at any point in time is affected by natal transits. Transits are the relationships between the planets in a natal chart and the planets in their position in the sky at a given point in time.

Fourth, a close relationship with another person can affect this contrast if there are aspects between these two planets and the planets in the partner’s chart.

An explanation of the complicating factors of other aspects in the natal chart, as well as transits, requires the services of a professional astrologer. Free computer-assisted readings may shed some light, but the full story is unlikely to be revealed.

Working with Pluto

Even without personal guidance from an astrologer, it is possible to solve some of the problems caused by a Pluto-Sun opposition in the natal chart.

One form in which Pluto-Sun opposition manifests is in trouble with and/or rebellion against authority figures. These have to be mastered and processed.

It is necessary to be very honest with yourself in every aspect of life. Pluto does not tolerate lies.

Another reflection of Pluto’s opponent of the Sun is that the person becomes very self-critical and becomes dissatisfied with their achievements. You put a lot of pressure on yourself to do things right.

The deepest manifestation of this opposition is when the person is repeatedly forced to face their shadow, that is, all those aspects of themselves that they hate or that they find scary or threatening. Questions about sex, violence, and obsessions often come up in this fight.

The essence is to communicate with Pluto instead of fighting him.

A very useful way to deal with this opposition is to enter a meditative state and visualize an encounter between you (the Sun) and Pluto. Take everything he tells you on board with you, but also make it clear that you (Sun) are in charge. If you manage to enlist him as a willing helper, he can become a powerful ally.

There’s another question about how opposite your Pluto is. I bet it doesn’t really contradict how you think. My concern is for the transitory Pluto opposing your sun. When this happened as in my sign, I find ruthless people, the modern day thieves, trying to take me down with their scam scheme. Pluto represents corrupt powerful people. You know who runs America, the 1% is. That’s them. They have manipulated a lot of things in ways you can’t see, but I see them because I have a lot of triangles on my chart, as well as Jup + Uranus conj in my 10 hse. I have Saturn opp sun on my nat chart but Saturn is long gone. Trust me, the scientific chart offers more accuracy. Pluto defied my sun 3 years ago, I see the crooks will still follow me knowing their depth. While they’ve been trying to rip me off, a lot of triangle aspects are haunting me. So the angels protect me. Bing search for “Philip walked away with $950 trillion”. Your ancestors and you have been enslaved since 1912. Be careful, people don’t hurt themselves by projecting Pluto against themselves. You see, your position of the sun is gradually moving forward slowly, a tiny bit faster than Pluto’s movement.

Pluto hardly moves. Another question arises, how opposite is your Pluto? I bet it doesn’t really contradict how you think. My concern is for the transitory Pluto opposing your sun. I have Pluto (3rd Libra) conjunct Saturn (4th Scorpio) opposite my Sun in the 10th (Taurus). I also have a stellium in my 10. It was tough. I’ve come a long way and I think I’ve really taken responsibility for my life, my choices and the people and things I’ve attracted. I’m on my way, I just don’t know where.
