Old TV shows that are on the air here in Brazil until today

The history of Brazilian TV began in September 1950, when the extinct TV Tupi São Paulo aired its first program. Since then, of course, a lot has changed. The format of most programs is different from that of that time, pay TV has brought new channels and the Internet has become a kind of competitor for the public’s attention. Amid so many changes, however, some shows have stood the test of time for decades and have a loyal audience.

Incrivel.club features a selection of old and still on-air TV shows for our enjoyment. Enjoy each one’s curiosities.

Silvio Santos Program

The Sílvio Santos program debuted in 1963. Since then, ‘Patrão’ has brought songs, jokes, humor pranks and awards to the public. The animator has already won the Guinness World Records award for the oldest show on Brazilian TV.

“On Sundays, I try to enter the homes of Brazilians like a child, with my childish side”

National Journal

The program, which began in the second half of 1969 with the outstanding voice of Cid Moreira and journalist Hilton Gomes, is a television news program in the classic format, widely broadcast all over the world. Presenter Willian Bonner has been in charge since 1996. Bonner shared the bench with then-wife Fátima Bernardes for almost two decades.

Newspaper Today

Sesame Street

This children’s show that started in the 70’s is a co-production of the American Sesame Street. He taught the children in a playful way in a scenario where people and dolls were interspersed in the fun of the little ones. The program stopped being broadcast in 1977, but returned in 2007 on TV Cultura.

Globo reporter

Who doesn’t remember the opening theme song for Globo Repórter? I bet that, after you read this, you got it in your head… anyway, the weekly program that brings reports about health, travel, curiosities and current affairs, started to be shown on Globo in April 1973 and is still going to this day with the journalists Sérgio Chapelin (who has been running the program since 1973!) and Gloria Maria.

Fantastic

Formerly known as “Fantástico: o show da vida” the program aired in August 1973 on Globo and was always shown on Sunday nights. Changed the opening and presenters several times. Today, journalists Tadeu Schmidt and Poliana Abritta are in charge of the digital magazine and it is reprized by Globo News and Globo Play.

Telecourse 1st and 2nd degree

The program is the forerunner of distance learning and started with 15-minute teleclasses. Today, it is freely available on the Internet and for a while it was shown on YouTube. Currently, Telecurso does not issue a certificate to those who attend, but it helps students to obtain diplomas in ENCEJA and ENEM.

Stadium Program

Globe Sports

A program also focused on the world of sports that began to be shown in August 1978. Today it is broadcast by Rede Globo from Monday to Saturday afternoon with a national edition and some state editions (DF, SP, AM, AC, RJ, RO, MG, MT, MS, RS, PA, PE, BA, PR, CE, GO, SC, MA) that occupy the first block of the news.

Rural Globe

A classic on Brazilian TV and a reference when it comes to journalism focused on agribusiness and rural issues, Globo Rural airs every Sunday at 8:30 am since 1980. Since its debut, Globo Rural has won more than 30 journalism awards.

Free Channel

Live Wheel

Another very traditional interview program, Roda Viva premiered on TV Cultura in 1986 and was the scene of intense debates between journalists and personalities, such as artists, sportsmen and politicians. One of the most curious cases, in fact, was a heated discussion between the former governor of São Paulo Orestes Quércia and journalist Ruy Xavier, from Estadão, with the journalist Heródoto Barbeiro, who ran the attraction, as a mediator. Today, the command of Roda Viva is also the journalist Ricardo Lessa. A curiosity are the drawings of the caricaturist Paulo Caruso.

Finally, we cannot forget about one of the most beloved programs in Brazil still on air: the keysaired by SBT since 1984. With its humor without malice and its unforgettable catchphrases (“Nobody has patience with me”….“Shut up, shut up, shut up, you drive me crazy!” and others) , Chaves, Seu Madruga, Quico and company do to adults and children. And anyone who would bet that Chaves’s days are numbered is wrong. Instead, the attraction started to be shown not only on SBT, but also on Multishow, with unreleased episodes.
