The loves of the Trujillo elf

The story tells about this elf that he was originally a rather sweet angel who played the guitar but who was expelled from heaven for his womanizing. Once he arrived on Earth he became a terrifying elf: A little man with big ears, a bulging belly and his head covered with a big hat.

The story says that this goblin usually steals pretty women, especially young ones. Nowadays, when a woman thinks she has seen the goblin she must say “she remembers the music of the sky” and in this way the goblin is scared and flees the place. The goblin injects terror into his victims by throwing things at the women’s windows. When he takes the women, he never hears from them again.

The siguanaba

La Siguanaba is considered one of the stories or Short myths of Honduras most popular of all time. This story tells the life of a girl, quite physically attractive, who appears near a river at midnight before the men who betray her wives or girlfriends. She first falls in love with them, but when the men fall into her clutches, she turns into an ogre. The woman appears only to unfaithful men and young ladies.

The Sisimite

It has become another of the Myths of Honduras most transmitted from generation to generation. This is another version of the giant creatures that appear out of nowhere and disappear in the same way. This creature is also called Itacayo and usually roams the high mountains in search of the most remote caves to inhabit.

The tongue eater

History tells that at one time the farmers of Honduras began to complain about the constant loss of cattle. The white cadejo

The white cadejo is nothing more than the story of a mysterious dog that only appeared to people who wandered the streets late at night. According to several theories, this dog has two forms; a white one that is the good one and another black one that represents the bad version. The black dog is associated with evil and they say that he chases people who are drunk.

For its part, the white dog represents the good version. Every time this animal appears to a person, it does so to provide protection. Protect those who are not involved in vices but who had to wander the streets at night for some other reason.

The Christ of Saint Lucia

The story of El Cristo de Santa Lucía is shared by the towns of Cedros and Santa Lucía. The myth goes that the inhabitants of both towns observed with amazement how the Christs of their main churches were exchanged and decided to return each one to its place of origin. Both populations left in procession towards Tegucigalpa, where the saints will be exchanged.

However, those from Santa Lucía could not arrive because the Christ began to become extremely heavy in a place called La Travesía. For that reason they could not carry it further in that direction so the image had to return to the church of Santa Lucía.

The shod mule

It is considered one of the most terrifying stories in Honduras. The story tells the life of a beautiful young woman who died after learning of the death of her mother, caused by the punches of a “chúcara” mule she had given her when she had left her alone. The young woman was buried and on the third day after her burial, she stood up from the grave turned into a “shod” black mule.

The myth says that the woman rose from the grave, half a woman and half a mule. They say that was her punishment for abandoning her mother. Witnesses claim to have seen her at night riding near some place where people of bad life gather, urging them to change her attitude. Yoro’s rain of fish

The Yoro Fish Rain was considered a rather strange meteorological phenomenon that took place in the city of Yoro, Honduras. It was a rain of fish that still, after several years, has no explanation. It is believed that the superstitious origin of this phenomenon is due to the story of Father Subirana. This was a religious man who visited Honduras between the decade of 1856 and 1864. Finding many poor people in need of food, he prayed for three days and three nights continuously asking God for a miracle that would help those most in need to get food.

The witchy hill

Cerro brujo is a smaller mountain that is located near the city of Tegucigalpa in Honduras. This myth has a recent history, in fact, it has been told for about 40 years now. Legend has it that the construction of a residence was planned at the top of the hill, but it was not carried out because a giant man appeared at the site.

There are those who say that it could have been El Sisimite but still no one clearly knows the origin of that mysterious man who appeared in the middle of the construction of the work. The cyclops

According to versions, in the middle of the 20th century, an Indian named Julián Velásquez did not want to be baptized. This Indian lived near Laguna Seca, but traveled to the Atlantic coast with a witch.

It was in that place where he found a tribe of cannibals who had only one eye. The story says that Julián was captured and was imprisoned along with three ladinos to be fattened. Julian, after many attempts, was finally able to escape from the tribe. Such cyclops have never been heard of again.

The dirty

It is undoubtedly one of the Long myths of Honduras best known and most widespread in history. This story is also talked about in other parts of Central America and Mexico. It tells the life of an attractive woman who always lived with her parents. When she turned 15 she met a boy with whom she fell madly in love.

He went to see her parents and asked for her hand in marriage because he knew of her family and had the reputation of a hard worker which they accepted immediately. The day of the wedding arrived and the friar requested a document indicating that both had been baptized. But she didn’t have it, so the friar didn’t marry them. The girl went into a very strong depression and she ended up going crazy.

After that the boy lost all hope of being able to marry the young girl and left. That was where he never wanted to take off his wedding dress again. One day when she was walking by a river, she heard that her eternal lover was going to marry another woman, which made her feel even more sad and desperate. She began to run and scream until she found a cliff and jumped.

There he died and his soul was left on this earth, searching for his loved one. The story says that sometimes she can be found at night near lakes or rivers, still wearing her wedding dress, and she usually appears to men who are attracted by the beauty of this woman, but when she come closer, the woman turns into something very horrible.

This myth talks about a small house that sits on a green hill where cows sleep and hang out. It is believed that no person has lived in that house for a long time. The inhabitants say that anyone who tries to live there dies before having time to leave it. Neighbors claim to hear horrible screams coming from inside the house.
