Margot Robbie, from a girl abandoned by her father and Subway cashier to a Hollywood star

When we try to imagine what a perfect life would be like, we often bring to mind the names of famous actors and actresses. They are the center of attention, they have dreamy bodies, faces that could make Greek deities jealous and, on top of that, a remarkable bank account, allowing them to enjoy all the luxuries they desire. But many had a difficult past before becoming world-renowned.

At the awesome.club we like inspiring stories like that of Margot Robbie, who, despite all adversity, managed to become one of the most important actresses in Hollywood.

Margot Elise Robbie was born in Dalby, Queensland, Australia, on July 2, 1990, without even imagining the possibility of becoming one of the most important faces in the film industry. At just 31 years old, she has been nominated twice for an Oscar and her talent has led her to work with big stars in the entertainment world.

But it wasn’t easy to get where you are. Margot said in an interview, “If I want something, I have to make it happen,” and she did. Everything seemed to indicate that her life would be a dream, but her parents’ divorce was an obstacle in her path and, at only 5 years old, her destiny took a drastic turn.

She is the third of four siblings, the daughter of Sarie Kessler, a physical therapist, and Doug Robbie, a farmer. After her father left, Sarie had to take care of her children alone and her financial situation was not easy. Since Margot has always been a woman of action, she worked in three places at once: as a maid, in a bar, and at Subway.

As revealed in an interview, he entered the Australian television series Neighbors after sending a letter to the production. But that’s not her only memory: “I was there for months before I realized no one else had any other jobs (at the time, she worked at Subway). And I was like, ‘Are you acting full-time? It is possible? Okay, I’ll do it.’ It was an epiphany,” she added.

But if someone was born to shine, nothing can stop them, as happened with Margot, who, after participating in a few productions in Australia, decided to try new paths in Hollywood – a difficult task, even more so for a young foreigner with only a certificate of studies in circus and from Somerset College.

And despite everything indicating his imminent failure, at just 20 years old, he moved to the United States and a few months later starred in the series Pan Am. “Everyone was saying, ‘You’re crazy! You’ll never make it!’, but it happened”, said the famous actress.

“I have always seen people receive gifts from Tiffany & Co. in the blue box. When I arrived in New York, after starting my career in this industry, I took my first check and went straight to Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue and bought an airplane amulet. It was the cheapest thing in the store, but it came in a blue box.”

But her biggest achievement came after slapping Leonardo DiCaprio and being chosen to play Naomi Lapaglia in The Wolf of Wall Street, a character that earned her recognition in the film industry and catapulted her to success and fame. This time, she used part of the money received to cancel the mortgage on her mother’s house.

Because of the absent father, the mother became her own example. “She raised us and always worked. She is a physical therapist. Sometimes I think she deceives me, because I don’t know how she keeps her energy intact. I still wonder how she held up. We were four unbearable kids, we were always fighting,” she revealed in an interview.

In 2015, Lachlan Robbie, Margot’s older brother, posted a Father’s Day message on his Instagram account: “Happy Father’s Day to this old man. Maybe he doesn’t have a normal family, but he gave me education and help when I needed it.”

For her part, Margot said, “My mother is simply the sweetest person on Earth and if I became her I wouldn’t mind at all, in fact it would be an honor.”

In 2014, the actress met Tom Ackerley, whom she married in a private ceremony. Tradition says that the bride’s father is in charge of walking his daughter down the aisle, but it was her mother who did it. On the other hand, her father, who happens to become a sugar cane tycoon, was not at the event. About this, the artist revealed to have a limited contact with him. “I don’t look anything like him,” she added.

Doug Robbie bankrolled Margot and her brothers in private schools, but he didn’t represent the conventional father figure we’re used to. His two daughters, Margot and Anya, reportedly said they “don’t care about him.” The sons, Cameron and Lachlan, are a little more supportive of their father.

Dreams come true, that’s a fact, but for that it takes discipline, perseverance and dedication. And Margot Elise Robbie has it all and more. She proved to be a chameleon in films like Double Strike; Suicide squad; The Legend of Tarzan; I, Tonya; Two Queens; and Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood. And she did not stop there, as in 2023 we will see her as Barbie in the live-action series about the famous doll.

After living a difficult childhood financially despite having a rich father, Margot acquired a net worth of approximately 71 million reais. And certainly the talented actress has many more successes in store for the seventh art as an actress and producer.
