Luciano Pavarotti's first wife has not gotten over the divorce

Pavarotti's first wife, Adua Veroni, did not attend the funeral chapel installed by the tenor but did attend the funeral held last Saturday in Modena. Nicoletta was Pavarotti's secretary. In 1995, photos surfaced of the two kissing in Barbados. The wife, Adua, claimed it was just a “flirt.” But later Pavarotti confessed that he felt lost without his secretary, lost not professionally but personally. “She's my ray of sunshine,” he said. They were in love.

Verdi's “Ave Maria” echoed through Modena Cathedral on Saturday as thousands of people bid farewell to Luciano Pavarotti at a funeral attended by members of his family, dignitaries and friends, and watched by his admirers around the world.

The tenor received a tremendous final ovation after being broadcast a recording of the great Italian tenor singing a duet with his father “Panis angelicus”, which they performed in 1978 in the same cathedral. Archbishop Benito Cocchi mentioned this fact in his homily after it was told to him by a witness, who described it as “two tenors interweaving,” taking turns to continue the melody.
