Who are the Magi?

In Christian tradition, the three wise men are the people who visited Jesus Christ shortly after his birth. The story goes that, after the visit, the magicians were warned by God in a dream not to inform Herod, who ruled Israel, of the location. So, they returned another way, to escape. The ruler really did not have good intentions, his goal was to kill the Messiah.

Called “magicians” from the East in the Bible, they are mentioned in the Gospel of Matthew, in chapter 2, verses 1-12. They are believed to have received the “title” of “kings” during the Middle Ages.

What to ask the Magi?

On Three Kings Day, the three Magi (Gaspar, Belchior and Baltazar) would have presented the Baby Jesus with gold, myrrh and incense. The products were considered noble and used in ancient times for the most varied purposes. Based on this symbolism, the date gained the reputation of opening the doors to prosperity.

Requests usually revolve around more money, health, love and protection. It is also believed that they can attract good luck energy for the whole year. Preferably, stand in front of a nativity scene when performing the sympathies. Lighting a candle is a good idea to help you connect with the present moment.

The recommendation is to think, write or say what you want as if you had already achieved it, giving thanks. For example: “Thank you for the salary increase” or “thank you for buying the new house”. Make yourself available to spirituality to spread faith and help those in need.

Sympathy of the Magi to attract money

You will need:

1 bottle of sparkling wine 1 glass 1 piece of gold paper (5×5 cm) 1 pomegranate

Way of doing:

On Three Kings Day, open the sparkling wine and fill the glass. Place the piece of paper on the weight next to you. Cut the pomegranate in half. Raise the cup and say: “Hail King Mago Baltazar”. Take a sip of the sparkling wine. Place a pomegranate seed in your mouth and remove the pulp, leaving it clean. Take the seed and place it on the gold paper. Repeat the process with “Salve Rei Mago Melquior” and then with “Salve Rei Mago Gaspar”. Fold the paper with the three seeds inside and envision prosperity in your life. Keep the package in your wallet throughout the year. On Kings Day next year, bury the package in a garden and recreate the sympathy.

You will need:

1 ladder or stool 1 pencil

Way of doing:

On Three Kings Day, place a ladder or a stool next to the front door of the house. Carefully climb the steps to reach the top door frame. With the pencil, write the names of the Magi (Baltazar, Belchior and Gaspar), one next to the other. Breathe deeply to connect with the present moment and say out loud: “Just as you brought so much light to our master Jesus, may you bring good energy home, protecting all my family members. Amen.”

Ritual with King’s Cake

Bolo Rei, king cake or Christmas cake is usually accompanied by a treat. In the shape of a crown, with dried and candied fruits, in addition to a white coating, it may hide something inside the dough, such as fava beans or star anise painted with gold food coloring. The “prize” slice brings extra luck to whoever gets it.

Ingredients

Pasta

200 g of butter 1 cup (tea) of brown sugar 4 egg yolks 1 can of condensed milk 2 cups (tea) of wheat flour 1 tablespoon (soup) of baking powder 1 cup (tea) of candied fruits 1 cup (tea) 4 light black raisins

Frosting

2 1/2 cups icing sugar 2 tablespoons milk 2 teaspoons lemon juice candied fruit for decoration

Method of preparation

Pasta

In a mixer, beat the butter until you get a whitish cream. Add the brown sugar and add the egg yolks one by one, beating constantly until they are well incorporated into the dough. Add the condensed milk in a stream, without stopping beating. Turn off the mixer and mix the sifted wheat flour together with the yeast, candied fruits and raisins. Beat the egg whites and gently incorporate them into the dough. Pour into a large mold with a central hole (25 cm in diameter), and place in a preheated medium oven (180°C) for about 1 hour. Unmold the cake while it is still hot.

Frosting

In a container, mix all the ingredients and pour over the cake. Decorate with candied fruits.

On Kings Day, it is also worth saying a strong prayer to give thanks for life and all the opportunities for growth. Find a quiet place where you won’t be interrupted and light a candle. With faith, read the message below:

“O most lovely Saints Kings, Balthazar, Melquior and Gaspar! You were warned by the Angels of the Lord about the coming to the world of Jesus, the Savior, and guided to the nativity scene of Bethlehem in Judah, by the Divine Star of Heaven.

O lovely Holy Kings, you were the first to have the good fortune to adore, love and kiss the Child Jesus, and offer him your devotion and faith, incense, gold and myrrh.

We want, in our weakness, to imitate you, following the Star of Truth. And discovering the Baby Jesus, to worship him.

We cannot offer him gold, frankincense and myrrh, as you did. But we want to offer you our contrite heart full of Catholic faith. We want to offer him our life, seeking to live united with his Church.

We hope to obtain intercession from you to receive from God the grace we so desperately need. (Silently, place the order). We also hope to achieve the grace of being true Christians.

O kind Holy Kings, help us, support us, protect us and enlighten us!
