Keys to enjoying work

On average, an adult spends 40 hours a week at work (Monday through Friday). If we take into account that we have 168 hours in the entire week, it gives us the idea that it is really quite a lot of time (almost a quarter) that we must be at our job. But That doesn’t have to be a reason for sadness or depression.If not the opposite.

It is true that we can have better or worse moments at work, days in which we want departure time to arrive soon and others in which without realizing it, 5 or 6 p.m. arrives and we return home. The secret so that these hours do not make us sad is to be focused on daily routines and fully immerse ourselves in the tasks we are doing.that is, leaving aside everything else, especially the desire to be on the couch watching television or having dinner with the family.

1 – Work in a pleasant way: Never “on the run” or “against the clock” nor turn into a turtle. When we do something we enjoy, time seems to fly by, let’s try to make that happen at work as well. This good attitude or predisposition will make the day much more enjoyable from the first to the last hours.

2 – Take a break before continuing with the next task: When we have a lot of things to do, our brain is likely to say “enough” ahead of time. When we make a “transition” from one task to another, we can take the opportunity to take a short break, at least a few minutes. By simply getting up to go to the bathroom or pour yourself a coffee, you are already changing your mood and renewing yourself for what comes next.

3 – Be aware of actions and people: Being focused on the activities we are doing can be one of the most difficult things to achieve. Surely your boss’s directives are mixed up in your head with your weekend outing or the calculations to deliver to a client with what you are going to prepare for dinner. Keep in mind that “getting lost” in thoughts of the past or the future will not help you at all.except to be less efficient in your work.

4 – Do the most important thing first: Each person has a certain rate of energy per day. Some have more “battery” first thing in the morning and others at midday. No one better than you to know this. So, leave the most important tasks for your moments of greatest energy and the most automatic or routine ones for after lunch, before you go home, etc. This way, you will have the biggest thing done and you will only have some minor activities left.

5 – Establish routines: It is true that not everyone likes to follow a routine, but you should know that this is 100% necessary. The body and mind are much better organized if they know which direction to take, which direction to follow, which path is the right one. Having an agenda will help you organize yourself better, to know when you can rest, to have a more comprehensive vision of what your work day will be like, to fulfill all obligations, etc.

6 – Forget about work: Enjoy those moments of relaxation between when you leave the office until you re-enter. It can be at lunch time or when you go home. You need to distance yourself between work and personal life. “Disconnect” your brain from everything related to work when you are not, precisely, at work. Weekends are not the time to talk about your boss or think about how to approach a meeting on Monday.

7 – Get along with others: It is true that this is not always possible, but we are not saying that we have to be friends with everyone, it is simply necessary to get along with those people who “share” so many daily and weekly hours with us. Avoiding fights and misunderstandings allows for a better work environment.
