The first story that we are going to learn is titled “The Excursion” and talks about a school excursion in which Daniel went, a rather restless student who felt upset because it was not the place he wanted to go. He would have preferred the beach, but instead, he was on a bus headed to a town without much to offer. The road to this town was rocky and everyone jumped to the sound of the bus.

Daniel was dizzy from so many hours of travel but after so much rolling, they finally saw the entrance to the town. “Welcome” was the first phrase they found on a damaged sign that hung on one side of an old arch that seemed about to fall. At that moment Daniel felt very afraid and chilled just as he entered the gloomy panorama.

The student observed a long street that looked lonely and bordered by houses in complete abandonment in which only a red horizontal line could be distinguished in the middle of the walls. The setting was similar to that of a black and white movie because nothing there had color except the line that went through the walls. The bus stopped in front of what seemed to have been a central plaza at some point.

According to the excursion guides, this place was the ruins of an old industrial area. In fact, after the entrance street, ruins of buildings could be seen. One of those towers caught Daniel’s attention because it seemed the oldest in the place and yet there was an intermittent light through one of its windows.

All the members of the excursion went to the old church of the town, however, Daniel separated from the group to inspect the building and discover the origin of that light that caught his attention. He entered a maze of hallways and stairs. It was a place characterized by dirty, smelly and dark, but Daniel’s curiosity got the better of him.

He observed a half-open door, from there he saw the reflection of the light but now he also heard a ticking like a clock. Daniel thought that there was something or someone inside that place and he felt a strange breath on his neck, as if someone was trying to whisper something in his ear.

Very afraid but gathering courage, Daniel decided to open the door. There was nothing. He took a few more steps into the room and at that moment the door closed. From there everything changed. There was a child leaning out of the window screaming and asking for help and in the corner there was a man who was laughing out loud while the lamp in the room was constantly turning on and off.

When the light was on was when you could see the cuckoo clock that hung on the wall and whose hands had stopped. It was also that moment of light that revealed the man’s face, with yellow teeth and enormous claws in his hands. Bare feet and ragged attire.
