Influencer highlights her own fluff and encourages other women to let go of filters and appreciate the real “me”

It is not new that it is known that, normally, women feel more dissatisfied with their bodies than men. This is due to beauty standards, which are always changing according to the times we live in. And if anyone knows how much the feeling of not meeting these standards can affect women’s self-esteem, it’s Joanna Kenny. Working as a beautician, she deals with many women who struggle with things that can make them doubt their own beauty.

We, from awesome.clubwe spoke with Joanna, and prepared an article with photos and the influencer’s opinions about beauty standards.

She says we need to stop dwelling on what others find beautiful.

“What has become more frequent is people’s desire to achieve the same ‘poreless’ skin seen on social media filters. This crooked perspective involving how the complexion should look creates unattainable goals in skin care, and any real progress is neglected. It is my responsibility to deal with expectations and remember that they have pores, not imperfections.”

Joanna went viral when she showed her mustache

“By showing my mustache, I don’t mean, ‘Hey, you MUST find this attractive.’ Rather, it’s a reminder that no one NEEDS to shave their facial hair to be seen as feminine. In 2021, a woman’s existence is still largely centered around how attractive men will find her. I want people to make choices about their bodies without fear of judgment.”

She even struggled with acne, and not removing the hair helped her skin improve.

Joanna had a habit of using any product to get rid of facial hair, and as a result, her acne only got worse. She understands that “there people with hormonal imbalances or who uses medications that cause excessive hair growth. These people cannot heed the pressures to remove or bleach all the hairs in order to fit. There are also those who cannot afford to have their hair professionally waxed, and the home methods end up making the skin worse”.

She shows how filters change people’s faces so that they look “perfect”

She advises people to stop using filters once they feel they don’t look pretty without them, or that filters aren’t fun anymore. Also, filters can become a problem for those who want to continue meeting with friends in real life, as they will end up seeing the face as it is. If you’ve started comparing yourself to your own image with filters, it’s because it’s time to get rid of them. Everyone has bad skin days, but that’s not why we should look down on ourselves.

She wants everyone to understand that women don’t exist to please others.

“There are people who struggle with acne or facial hair who read the haters’ comments. And these will act as a confirmation that they will not be accepted as the humans that they are. I don’t care if Visible facial hair makes someone uncomfortable, and I certainly don’t care if men find me less attractive. I don’t make decisions about my body to please others, and no one should.”
