I tested a vegan hair color –

There’s something very satisfying about dyeing your hair: the sense of change in appearance is accompanied by an impulse for life, something like “now I’m the new ME, which is going to rock”. But what if this new “me” was more sustainable, starting with the dye itself?

On the other hand, comes that thought: does a vegan tincture really work? I tested a new professional vegan dye to become a rich brunette (yes, it’s a trend) and I tell you:

THE PAINT

Unfortunately, almost all hair dyes are tested on animals. In addition to some containing products and ingredients of animal origin in the formula (such as animal protein keratin, or glycerin of animal origin).

But the product I used was Amend’s Color Delicaté, a dermatologically tested, hypoallergenic, ammonia and PPD-free paint, free of gluten, parabens and mineral oil and totally vegan.

The brand, specialist in haircare, took two years to develop the formula, bringing consumers a special blend with 12 oils selected for advanced nutrition, namely: argan oil, shea nut, cotton seed, coconut, macadamia, tea
green, chamomile, aloe, calamus, myrrh, olive and cinnamon, which protect the hair from drying out, restoring lubricity and vitality and providing greater frizz control.

“The launch is a great ally for those who have some type of allergy or are coloring their hair for the first time”, says Andre CintraCEO of Amend.

And that was — almost — my case. I’ve dyed my hair before, but a few years ago it was completely virgin and healthy. I even wanted to dye it, but my concern was to keep the hair healthy — which went down the drain the last time I bleached it.

THE PROCESS

I did the dyeing at Salon C.Kamura, in São Paulo, with hairdresser Morgana Rocha and I was surprised by the speed of the process.

I arrived at the salon with a laptop and a book, prepared to spend a few hours in the chair, but in 30 minutes the discoloration was done.

Of course, in part this is because we didn’t try to go for a very light blonde, but for a lit brunette, but even so, it was a great surprise.

After removing the bleach (also from Amend, which the hairdressers told me is their favorite because it’s less aggressive on the hair), I went to the sink and applied the vegan dye.

It’s now been a few weeks of my “rich brunette” hair and I’m loving it. Mainly because of the health she kept in the wires. My hair didn’t feel bouncy or dull — on the contrary, it’s even shinier!
