Humility is not preached, it is practiced

I don’t like people who preach the importance of recognizing one’s own limitations but who, nevertheless, believe that they are more than others. because they don’t have humility. I also don’t like those who flaunt their virtues as if there were nothing else in the world.

They are the same side of the coin of false and affected humility. The one that only exists in appearance and that swaggers with an air of superiority wherever it goes. It is the same one that, even when we cannot consciously perceive it, causes us rejection.

If you think you are too big for small things, perhaps you are too small for big things.

What it is not to be humble

Being humble is not about feeling inferior to others, nor about submitting or giving up. Humble people are not vulnerable to ridicule or contempt, they simply know their limitations, accept them and live with them. In turn, they allow their virtues to be known by their actions, not by their words…

However, An arrogant person cannot sleep at night because his dark feelings corrupt his rest. They constantly live in anger and resentment.

Thus, being humble is not letting ourselves be beaten but rather admitting our mistakes, being intelligent to learn from them and having enough maturity to correct them. Arrogance, however, makes us stumble, close doors and not move forward.

“What humility cannot demand of me is my submission to the arrogance and rudeness of those who disrespect me. What humility demands of me when I cannot react as I should to an insult is to face it with dignity.”

-Paulo Freire-

The lack of humility is characteristic of people who think only of themselves and believe they are superior or better than others. This does not allow them to appreciate the virtues of others and, sometimes, envy corrodes them.

So, The lack of humility generates a certain conscious or unconscious social rejection, which causes pride to accompany loneliness. This is because we dislike selfishness even if it is subtle.

For someone to boast or prioritize themselves in an exaggerated way is exhausting and an attack on other people’s self-esteem. Therefore, one’s recognition of oneself and others is much more hopeful.

Not believing ourselves more than others is a gift that we have to work on daily. It is easy to fall into the false belief that we are more skilled or capable than others at doing something, just as it is easy to think that our values are better or more valid.

When false humility is a slight defect, it is difficult for us to recognize ourselves that we have fallen into that abyss. This makes it difficult for us to realize how important it is that, in some way, there is something in us that we believe is superior.

Humility thwarts envy and elevates kindness

It’s about believing in the simple and admiring the simple. The kindness, the dignity, the quality of a person has to endure. Being humble makes us fair and great, as it helps us understand what our limits are and become aware of what we have left to learn.

The practice of humility should be a daily exercise, since it helps us know how to listen and share silences and to be close and sincere with the people around us. Thus, we become quality people while we manage to touch others with our smiles and our gestures.

As we have said, humility is the basis of all greatness, because to grow we first have to learn that we are small. Being humble is being sincere and banishing the superficial, which will guarantee our emotional well-being…
