How to find peace of mind and be the best version of yourself

Peace of mind is available to everyone. However, it is a path that must be traveled a little every day.

Having peace of mind is a very important achievement. I know you may think it’s mythical to reach that state. Or that it is unattainable or unreal. Maybe you know few people who can say “I am at peace.”

It seems to me in some cases it is better to say “I am in balance.” Many times you can be in the middle of a conflict, a dispute and still feel balanced. Obviously, you live in this world that is increasingly stressed, more worried and more immediate, but when you achieve peace of mind, you will experience that feeling of balance that I am talking about.

“The person who is not at peace with himself will be a person at war with the entire world.”

-Mahatma Ghandi-

What is peace of mind?

Peace of mind is a stable balance that you manage to return to after or despite negative experiences. It’s like a little ball in the middle of two mountains.

They can push you up, but you slip back into place. If the push is too big, you may end up oscillating, going up and down, but you will return to your balance point. Don’t think about going up a high rope trying not to fall, no.

Achieving inner balance is a constant task, but there are some steps that will help you achieve it. Let’s see the most important ones.

1. Simplify your life

Have fewer things to worry about. You must always believe that quality is better than quantity. You should also apply that to your friendships. Do not continue with destructive friendships, which cause imbalance to see them.

Also think about material things, for example, your clothes. When you change seasons, see if there is something you didn’t wear and think about whether you will ever wear it. Probably not. Then donate it to an institution or give it to someone. That will make your work easier every time you have to fix the closet and will make others very happy.

If you are going to buy something, think about whether it is really essential. Don’t let advertising or fashion rule your life. This way you can pay attention only to the relevant things and focus on them. Break free!

2. Think about the present

Don’t obsess over the past. If it wasn’t good, try to fix it now, but don’t regret it. Work on your present. You shouldn’t worry too much about the future either. It depends on what you do now what the future will be like. Focus on the here and now and enjoy it.

“If you are not happy here and now, you never will be.”

-Taisen Deshimaru-

3. Be grateful and smile

Please look at the glass half full and not half empty. Be grateful for what you have, even the smallest thing. Be grateful to yourself, to your parents, to your family. Also with the baker or the supermarket cashier.

Give them a smile. You will be able to change their mood and you will also change yours. You will see how much better you will interact with people, your coworkers, with everyone. A smile always transmits calm, happiness and love.

4. Remember that everything will pass

Time is indifferent, whether you are in a great moment or a terrible one. If it is very good, enjoy it and if it is very bad, it will pass. Time moves on. A very good exercise is to try to be someone else. How would that other individual resolve this situation?

It is important to see things from another point of view and not lose your cool. Take a deep breath, take in your surroundings and calm down. Time fixes everything.

5. Finish what you start and close your cycles

Your study, work, and love cycles. Also your duels. They all have a beginning, but you, in due time, must give it an end. You must act with patience. Also be patient with yourself. Everything comes in due time. But you must manage to finish what you started in order to move forward.

Those steps are the key. But remember that they are all in you. It is you who must seek your inner peace and understand that no matter what happens to your environment, it should not affect you.

“Learn from the past, prepare for the future, but live in the present.”

-Joyce Meyer-

6. Clean up your social circles

Do not hesitate to throw out of your life those people who intoxicate it and refuse to change. You have the right to be happy and to seek healthy social environments that bring you peace. Although peace of mind can be achieved amidst the noise, it never hurts to reduce it.

7. Free yourself from the need to please and perfectionism

It is good to push yourself, but this should not be born from the need for external recognition or from unhealthy perfectionism. Forgive yourself for your mistakes and move forward at the pace that is most comfortable for you.. And, of course, she accepts that not everyone is going to feel sympathy for you.

8. Don’t live in victimhood

It is true that sometimes you are the victim of attacks. As long as there are aggressors, there will be victims. However, invariably putting yourself in a role where everyone around you wants to harm you is as unrealistic as it is dysfunctional.

For this reason, and to avoid the stress that comes with it, try to analyze conflicts from all perspectives. This will help you take the focus off of yourself and approach problems in a more pragmatic way.

9. Learn to forgive

Don’t drink poison and expect someone else to die. Forgiveness is not about forgetting and justifying a bad act, it is about letting go of the pain that has been done to you. That pain only affects you, it does not serve as a punishment for an aggressor nor does it solve the consequences of their actions. Therefore, to achieve inner peace it is essential to learn to forgive.

Most of the time we go through life more concerned with remembering and regretting the past than with living what is presented in the now. Peace of mind changes this. It allows you to let go of what is extra and learn to enjoy what you have today. Worrying excessively is not positive or healthy, so don’t do it.
