In umbanda, the little room is a ritual widely used by various doctrines of religion. It serves to maintain a connection between your faith, your Guardian Angel and Orixás. The little room becomes a point of energy balance for the medium, thus helping at all times when he needs more energy, more connection and spiritual evolution.

As it is such an important element for Umbanda, it is necessary to follow certain precautions and obtain some important information. Therefore, this article will give you everything you need to know to have a little room, how to take care of it and what to do and what not to do with it.

Umbanda is a magical religion par excellence and there are several rituals within it, which are not seen by those who go to a terreiro to take a pass or attend a consultation. These rituals aim to strengthen the medium and the mediumistic current, in order to provide the best spiritual preparation for the moment of the tour.

One of these rituals and fundamentals is precisely the little quart, which in the eyes of a layman is nothing more than a clay or ceramic pot, but, in fact, is a powerful firmness for mediumistic support. There are several types of purpose for a small room, from an initial one for the Guardian Angel to more complex ones for Orixás. Understand more details below.

The little quart is a clay or ceramic container with a lid on top, much like a jar. You will find these containers in addition to material variation or with and without a handle. The small rooms can offer the most varied colors, which are usually linked to the Orixás for which they are destined, in addition to some having drawings.

The most traditional and used, however, are the natural clay quarts or the white ceramic quarts, easily found in any firm of centers throughout Brazil, always founded and consecrated in the name of an Orixá, entity or firmness of specific mediumship. .

The little quarters play a very important role within the religion, most Umbanda doctrines use the little quarter and the medium will come into contact with this element at some point. In addition, they generate vital energy, acting at times as a receptacle of communion between the medium and the Orisha.

At other times, it acts as a representation of the medium’s Ori (head). Regardless of the purpose it is serving, the main point to be highlighted is that it must be treated with respect and seriousness. Thus, the need for a small room comes with the responsibility of taking care of it.

The origin of the quarts is given to the mystery of the folded containers, existing for thousands of years. Umbanda makes a lot of use of them. In this way, the small room with a handle is linked and used by Orixás and female guides, while the small rooms without a handle are linked and used by male Orixás.

As previously mentioned, you will come across different models of quarters when you go to buy them in religious and related articles, and one of these variations is with or without a handle, also known as a wing. This doubt is very common for those who do not know about the foundation and origin of these sacred containers.

One of the uses of the little room is its consecration to an Orisha. It is usually done when there is an initiation and preparation of the medium with that particular Orisha.

Always respecting the law of the greatest and the real need of the element, you only need to perform this consecration if so determined by your priest or entity. In this section, you will understand more about the subject. So, read on.

One of the fundamentals of umbanda presented by Caboclo da Sete Encruzilhadas is the regency and support of the religion of umbanda by the Orixás. This support is practically unanimous among all branches of umbanda spread across the country, some have in their rituals the cult of the Orixás and others do not, but all have their firmness in them.

The relationship between the terreiro and the Orixá and the interpretation of what the Orixás are and how to worship them will depend on each doctrine. In this way, some houses with roots in the cult of the nation will have a load of preparations and precepts more loaded in the way of worshiping the Orixás as in Africa, others more linked to spiritualism for the cult, being then, less loaded of this influence.

So everyone is right. Umbanda asks for this duality and it is necessary to respect the individuality of its doctrines and terreiros. So, the use of small rooms inside the terreiros that work with the forces of the Orixás will have the role of maintaining the energetic connection between the medium and his energetic firmness.

If you observe the shape of a quartet, especially the variation with a handle, you will notice that it resembles the shape of a uterus, as one of the definitions used for it is precisely this. In this way, the little room represents and maintains the birth of the medium with that specific energy and often comes after an initiation ritual with the Orisha.

The small room also functions as an energetic receptacle for the power emanating from it, as it represents the medium’s individual connection with the energy based on it, whether from the Guardian Angel, an entity or an Orixá – it will capture and maintain the energies contained within and can be used in a time of need as an energy booster.

Let’s assume that you made your firmness and delivered your offering, consecrating yourself with the energy of a certain Orisha. There, at that moment, you have already made the firmness of your little room and then take it to your altar. Within it will be the connection energy between you and the Orisha.

The little room represents the individuality of the being with the superior force in question. This individuality needs to be enshrined and taken care of later through elements, and the correct way will happen according to the guides or the Pai de Santo guide, because each being has its particularities. Find out below about its use, how to renew energy and what you can put inside the bedroom.

The little room can have its home after being consecrated in two places, depending exclusively on the doctrine and guidelines received. It can be placed inside the terreiro in a specific place, designated by the Pai de Santo, usually in a room reserved for this purpose.

The other possibility is for the medium to reserve a place inside your home to store it. In this case, it is important to point out that the place must be preserved in a particular way, not recommending the handling of the quarts by other people, avoiding places where there is an intense movement of people – remembering that it is a sacred instrument, it must be cared for and respected .

Depending on the consecration of the little room, a very used element is the cornerstone of the Orisha. She is often a stone that carries her energy. For example, crystal is used for Oxalá, green quartz for Oxossi and so on. Another use of a quarter stone is a stone taken from a natural power point through ritual.

The colors in the quarters represent the energy vibration of each Orisha or entity that is established there, they may or may not be done that way, in the form of homage and even to differentiate one from the other. It is not mandatory and it will not be harmful if you sign all the Orixás with a white or even clay quart.

Before any other item, it is necessary to put the energy of the Orisha in question within a small room, noting that the elements intended for these Orixás will vary greatly from doctrine to doctrine. In some cases, the elements that remain inside the little room are taken from nature or from the consecration offering.

Generally, inside the little room there are fundamental stones of the Orixás, beverages, mineral water and ores such as: iron, copper, silver, gold, etc.. Depending on the strength of each Orixá, one must always be within the limits established by each doctrine, being that one permits alcoholic drink and others vehemently forbid it.

Respecting the individuality and needs of each one, there is no rule about the amount of things, and this is up to the guidance of the Pai de Santo and the medium’s entities, being essential to understand the real need to have the little room at that moment because it is a big responsibility.

Once consecrated, the little room must be kept in a sacred place and be cared for every day. Ideally, every morning, you raise your head to the strength of the little room, greeting with a prayer or a song. Keeping the little room with a seven-day candle always lit is another ideal point for your maintenance to have strength.

Every little room, regardless of what it is, has a liquid inside, and the main thing is to keep it that way, not letting it dry out, because energy emanates from there. Depending on the guidance received, there is also a need to renew the elements that are within it, be it fruits or other foods.

Never let anyone else handle your little room except your Pai de Santo, if necessary. The task of keeping it lit, full and up-to-date is solely and exclusively yours, because it is about your faith and your communion with the sacred. Thus, the crossing of another energy, however positive it may be, will sever that connection.

It is essential to keep the room and the place where it is clean, especially the natural dust that any place has. For this, use a new cloth and leave it reserved for that purpose only. It may happen that some quarters need internal cleaning too.

In this case, guidance will be given on how often and how to proceed with the elements that are in that location. Learn more below.

In case the little room, perchance, comes to break or the medium, for some reason, will no longer use it, he must not forget that there was the representation and love of his Orisha. So, you can’t just throw it in the trash, because in addition to being a lack of respect, it can bring you consequences because your own subconscious knows it’s wrong.

In this way, the ideal is to go to a point of natural strength and make another offering to dispatch that element, the same ritual can be done on the cross in the cemetery, where these forces are collected. If that’s your case, it’s highly recommended to make this offering in a…
