the humble childhood

Simone, 37, and Simaria Mendes, 39, were born in the city of Uibaí, in the interior of the state of Bahia. The artists, who are a national success, revealed that they had a difficult childhood, as they grew up in a humble family. With their father, who was a prospector, and their mother, who worked as a laundress, they lived in several cities in the region, in very simple houses, often made of boards or canvas, since their father dreamed of finding a place to live. diamond in the mines to improve the family’s life.

His father, Seu Antônio, died in 1992, aged 44, and this affected the family a lot, in addition to making everyone’s financial situation worse. Simaria said in an interview that he “was the most incredible father in the world”. After this event, they needed to stay with their grandmother while their mother, Dona Mara, moved to the city of São Paulo in search of a job. As a result, she spent about three years away from her three children, Simone, Simaria and Caio, who is the youngest.

The beginning of the career and the struggle for fame

The passion for music emerged when the two were still children. They even performed at various concerts around the state where they were born, even performing at events organized by city halls. The duo also participated in several musical competitions in childhood, always accompanied by their parents, who liked to see them sing. The clothes they wore were made by their grandmother.

A few years after their father’s death, they moved to São Paulo, to live with their mother, and began to invest even more in their musical career. Simaria said that the beginning was not at all easy, since she only earned 30 reais a week to play in a band. This while she was still studying to fulfill her dream of finishing high school and having the possibility of trying another profession, in case she couldn’t stay in the music business.

Difficulties faced and overcome

Simaria’s school years were not at all easy, as she used to play up to four shows a night and went straight to study. She said in an interview that she even fainted a few times in class and worried her teachers, who told her to rest, which ended up making her and her sister terrible students.

Participation in other bands

The family’s situation improved when, in 1996, Simaria passed the test to become singer Frank Aguiar’s backing singer and they all moved to São Bernardo do Campo, in Greater São Paulo. In 1998, her sister also managed to join the band. In all, they spent seven years working with the artist, until in 2004 they decided to invest in a solo career, parallel to their work in the band. The fight, however, was not over. The duo reported that they received little pay and, as they needed to pay the other musicians and transport, they ran out of money on many occasions.

The endeavor lasted three years and they even spent time away from the stage. However, in 2007, the passion for music was rekindled and the two joined the band Forró do Miúdo, which was a great success in the North and Northeast regions of the country, and they moved to Fortaleza, Ceará, where they live until today. In all, they spent five years with the band, when the call to try a career alone spoke louder and they decided to invest again in the dream.

Finally, national success

Their career as a duo began in 2012, when their first album was released. In a short time they started to be successful. The song Quero o Mel É Bom, released in 2015, reached high positions in the rankings of the most heard songs in the country. After that, the two made several partnerships with other artists, such as Bruno and Marrone, Wesley Safadão and even Anitta; they were judges of talent programs and participated in numerous programs.

Simone and Simaria remember the difficulties they faced to achieve success, without neglecting the good humor and lively and playful way that enchant and attract a multitude of fans throughout Brazil. They realized their biggest dream: to provide a better life for their family.
