How is the cast of “Family Ties” today

In the early 2000s, the soap opera Family relationships and most of us, novelists or not, remember how remarkable the plot was, especially for bringing up a very relevant topic: the fight against cancer.

The soap opera written by Manoel Carlos brought many viewers to tears in its most striking scene, in which the character Camila needs to shave her hair due to the treatment against leukemia, to the sound of the memorable song Love by Grace.

The scene where Camila shaves her head was not scheduled and would not air. interviewed in Lady Night Program by Tatá Werneck, Carolina Dieckmann explained that the scene was just part of a bone marrow donation campaign. However, the actress ended up getting really emotional and the scene went to the soap opera. It was a newspaper article about a case that occurred in the United States, in 1990, the inspiration for Manoel Carlos, author of the soap opera, to idealize it. This was the case of a mother who became pregnant in the hope that her second daughter would have bone marrow compatibility to save her older sister, who had leukemia. The author of the novel himself makes a quick appearance in one of the first scenes. The plot had some scenes shot in Japan. The incentive to read was also a topic addressed: through the character of Tony Ramos, Miguel, owner of a bookstore and in love with Machado de Assis, some works were publicized. Family relationships had the highest rating in telenovelas on Rede Globo in the last 5 years prior to it. With that, it helped the station to grow its average audience by 6% in 2000.
