How are 10 VJs that marked an era on MTV Brasil today

Anyone who lived through adolescence and youth between the 1990s and 2010s in Brazil should keep MTV Brasil’s programs fondly in mind. The success of the channel aimed at young audiences was so great that, in 2011, it reached the fifth position among the most admired stations in the country.

MTV was successful because it broadcast video clips to the public — at a time when YouTube did not yet exist — and its programs were guided by funky, fun people known as video jockeys🇧🇷 Or rather, VJs. And nine out of 10 teenagers back then probably dreamed of becoming VJs.

Do you remember Luiz Thunderbird? He started his career in television at MTV Brasil, still in the 1990s and left the station in 2013. In the same year, he became the presenter of the Brazilian version of the program MythBusters, on TV Cultura. Today, he has a YouTube channel where he talks about music-related topics.

What 2000s teenager didn’t dream of having MariMoon’s colored hair? In case you don’t remember, she was one of the first Brazilian internet personalities and started to be successful in 2003 when the fotologs were still on the rise.

After leaving MTV Brasil in 2012, the presenter participated in TV Globo programs, such as Video show, and presented the transmission of Rock in Rio🇧🇷 Despite her participation on the small screen, her strength continues to be her presence on social networks and the former VJ has more than 740,000 followers on Instagram.

Penélope Nova can be considered the most “daring” presenter of the old network. Currently, she maintains a YouTube channel, in which she answers “saucy” questions from her followers, more or less like the format of the famous show she ran on MTV, the Foot Point.

It’s possible that you don’t know, but Max Fivelinha started his artistic career at MTV as a makeup assistant and only became a judge on the show. VJ for a day after eight years of broadcasting. Away from the small screens, Fivelinha preferred a quieter life in the countryside and today he owns a farm where he raises guinea hens.

From time to time, MTV held contests to choose who would be the station’s new VJs. It was in an attraction of this style that Leo Madeira won his place on the channel. Presenter Edgar Piccoli stayed on the station between 1995 and 2006 and presented programs such as MTV Stage, MTV Nation and MTV sweat🇧🇷 Currently, the former VJ presents the Morning Show on Jovem Pan radio.

In an interview with Marie Claire magazine, the former VJ said that she is very grateful for the 10 years she spent on television, but that she never worked directly with what was her purpose. Today, Ellen maintains a less frenetic lifestyle, focusing on her spiritual side. The muse’s priorities are projects that involve vegetarian food, meditation, yoga and nature.

Although she has a solid career, with a stint on GNT, a YouTube channel and presenting a show on Rádio Eldorado to this day, Sarah Oliveira says that MTV Brasil was very important for her. “Many find me and say: ‘You were part of my adolescence’”, said the presenter.

Marina Person entered MTV imagining that she would be there for a year or two at most. However, she ended up working at the station for 18 years. Can you believe? At 51, the former VJ is still very active in the media. In addition to presenting the program Magazine, on Arte 1, she works on Rádio Eldorado and also produces the gastronomic program Marinando.
