How many times have you asked yourself if the profit margin of stores is fair? These numbers, in this case, would be the difference between the cost of the merchandise and its selling price. It is very likely that you have already unknowingly purchased something that sellers have earned over 400% on that product. Here you can see a list of products that have a very high profit margin; this way, the next time you go shopping, you’ll think twice before purchasing one of these items.

Although Apple does not disclose its production costs, researchers at IHS Markit have calculated that to produce a 64GB iPhone X, around $370 is invested. The selling price of this device is 1000 USD or even more depending on the country, which means that the margin in this case would be 170%.

De Beers, a multinational that deals with the extraction, processing and sale of natural diamonds, had an excellent advertising campaign. The results of it can still be seen today. It was this company that spread the idea that engagement was not serious until the woman was presented with a diamond ring. As a result, both the demand for the product and the price of the gemstone increased. Today, the profit margin on this item is 100%.

The value of a wedding dress is, on average, 3.9 times higher than a white dress that is not considered suitable for marriage. The profit margin level can vary depending on the brand and/or vendor, but is in the range of 100 to 600%.

We are already used to the fact that the price of popcorn in the cinema is much higher than if we were to buy it in a store. But who among us could imagine that the margin is several times higher than the cost of the same product? Some studies indicate that cinemas work with an average margin of 1,275% for this merchandise.

The price of a bottle of water is 300 times the cost of a faucet. And in most cases, we get the same water, just filtered and purified. Even taking these expenses into account, the margin is still very high.

Televisions and game consoles are too expensive to buy too often. Therefore, they do not bring very high profits to electronics stores. As a result, sellers increase the prices of small goods, such as HDMI cables, by up to 10 times.

The margin that is added to mattresses can range from 100 to 900%. One of the reasons for this increase is that people do not buy this product very often: it is estimated that the average human being buys two mattresses throughout his life and replaces them only if necessary. According to a study by the National Sleep Foundation, 67% of Americans purchased their mattress more than two years ago.

Companies that produce cheap printers make up for low profits with high margins on their cartridges. Sometimes they increase their value by up to 10 times, and their justification is the high cost of research and development. According to some studies, paint is more expensive than gasoline, or even alcohol.

The actual cost of a text message is $0.003. Some studies show that sending 1 Gb of messages is more expensive for the consumer than sending 1 Gb of data from the NASA station that studies Mars.

A typical margin for a birthday or any other holiday card is between 50 and 100%. Despite the fact that we live in the digital age, they do not lose their popularity, and in the United States alone, 7 billion cards are sold a year.

The cost of producing a 355 ml can of Coke is $0.15, but it is usually
sold for approximately the equivalent of $1. That is, when the final consumer buys it, its price increases 12.5 times.

And just out of curiosity, there are Coca-Cola cans so rare that they are still unopened and do not even contain the most famous drink in the world, due to production errors. There is a record that shows that one of these cans sold for $250,000.
