France has proposed a Bill to protect women who breastfeed in public

Breast milk is essential for babies, studies say. Children who are breastfed have stronger immune systems, lower rates of illness and less frequent hospitalizations. However, breastfeeding remains a controversial issue and women who breastfeed in public are often subject to judgment and insults.

We, from awesome.clubwe want to share a Bill recently created by the French government to protect women who choose to breastfeed in public.

Previously, France had no law on breastfeeding in public places. Although there was no direct restriction, women still faced negativity while doing it in public. But apparently that behavior is starting to change. The National Assembly of France recently proposed the establishment of a Bill to punish those who obstruct breastfeeding. This law will deal attempting to prevent a woman from breastfeeding as a crime and will punish offenders with a fine of 1,500 euros (or 1,780 dollars).

The need to establish this Bill became clear after another unpleasant incident happened recently, with a mother breastfeeding in public while waiting in line. She was breastfeeding her baby and was insulted and assaulted by a woman who was also in line. The mother, Maÿlis, found the courage and strength to talk about her experience on the internet. His story went viral and pressured the government to take action on the issue.

The Bill strives to bring about positive change in the way people view breastfeeding and treat breastfeeding mothers. The government is about to train those who work in public places, according to the new Bill. “It is also important to raise awareness and train people working in public places”said one of the proponents.

The bill, however, aims to protect not only those who work in public places, but society as a whole, making it clear that breastfeeding is not indecent exposure. “It is a shame to have to write this, but it is almost systematically what women [que amamentam] are blamed,” she says.

They are doing something totally natural and that’s what breasts are for. I don’t think women should cover up, so I don’t feel animosity towards a woman who doesn’t cover up. I mean, seriously, would you like to eat with a blanket over your head? Or using a blanket in the summer heat? I mean, couldn’t this become a health hazard, due to overheating?
