But what is the difference between marriage and a stable union?

The stable union is regularized through the Stable Union Pact, made at the registry office or by lawyers.

The Federal Supreme Court also decided that to establish a stable union it is not necessary for the couple to share the same roof.

Regarding assets, in a stable union, the regime of partial community of assets prevails, but nothing prevents the parties from entering into a contract choosing another regime of assets, just as in civil marriage.

It is important to consider that in a stable union the couple’s marital status does not change and the rights of both parties depend on what was agreed in the contract.
