Do you know your biorhythm? – GOOD SHAPE

Have you noticed that there are some hours of your day when you feel more productive and others when you feel more tired? Ever struggled to wake up early but love working late at night? Some days did you feel your mind working at full speed and others more slowly?

According to Dr. Rafael Maksud, psychiatrist at Clínica Ame.C, there is an explanation for this very common behavior. “The way your body reacts to external stimuli varies according to the time of day and is defined by the characteristics of your organism. There are those who feel more productive at night, those who like to wake up early and even those who prefer to carry out their activities during the night. This variation can be explained through the biorhythm. Understanding this concept helps guide your routine and ensure better performance in your tasks”, explains the psychiatrist.

Biorhythm is a word of Greek origin: “Byos” means life and “Rhythmos” means rhythm, that is, Rhythm of Life. The concept began to be studied around 1870 by a physician at the Berlin Academy of Sciences and by a psychologist at the University of Vienna in 1897. They analyzed that the physical and emotional cycle were different. determined that the physical cycle lasts 23 days and emotional 28 days. Later, Sigmund Freud collaborated with the theory by adding the intellectual cycle, which lasts 33 days. The theory points out that vital issues, as well as intellectual and emotional disposition and energy can be predicted by cycles, directly impacting people’s behavior.

“The theory of Biorhythm seeks to describe and predict the exact moments of ups and downs of a person in specific areas, calculated according to the date and time of birth. Biorhythm can explain why on certain days we are calmer or more nervous, active or tired, happy or sad, healthier or a little sick, that is, days when everything goes right or everything goes wrong”, shares Carolina Mirabeli, psychologist and career development consultant.

Furthermore, the cycles can be divided by positive and negative days. In the physical cycle, bodily aspects such as muscles, immunity and digestion are affected. On the emotional side, points related to creativity, mental health, humor and sensitivity. In the intellectual cycle, memory, reasoning, reflexes, concentration and agility are affected.

WHAT IS THE PHYSICAL CYCLE?

Carolina explains that the physical cycle lasts 23 days, of which 11.5 days are positive and 11.5 days are negative. It manifests itself through the body – muscles, bones, digestive functions, immune system. “This cycle influences our resistance to disease, pain perception, strength, motor coordination, energy. Thus, on physically critical days, a person is more likely to feel tired, to suffer accidents such as cuts, burns, falls, or to fall ill more easily”.

WHAT IS THE EMOTIONAL CYCLE?

The emotional cycle lasting 28 days, of which 14 days are positive and 14 days are negative. “It manifests itself through the central nervous system. It governs creativity, sensitivity, good or bad mood, perception of the world and ourselves. On critical days, the person should be more sensitive, less creative and more prone to mood swings and relationship problems,” explains the psychologist.

It manifests itself through memory, intelligence, reasoning power, inspiration, concentration, logic. “For this reason, according to the theory of biorhythms, people go through periods of high and low productivity. In their critical phase, they may have more difficulty making decisions, have low memory capacity and express themselves with greater difficulty”.
