Different ways of preparing ritual candles – –

Before lighting a candle for a ritual or spell, you should charge the candle. Charging a candle means preparing your candle to become more powerful. You can achieve this by cleaning, dressing and carving your candle.

Clean your candle

By cleansing a candle, you remove any negative or psychic energies that the candle may have picked up along the way. It’s like restoring the candle to its original state.

There are four ways to clean a candle:

Hold the candle over incense or sage smoke. Leave it out in the moonlight overnight. Bury the candle in sea salt and leave overnight or a whole day. Rub alcohol in, starting at the bottom and working your way up. If you are working with a glass candle, then rub the exposed areas and the glass with alcohol.

No matter which cleaning method you choose, it is very important to always stay focused on your goal when cleaning. Pray and ask for blessings and cleaning of the candle.

Dress your candle

Dressing is a process where you anoint a candle with oils. When you put on a candle, you imprint your intentions on it. This makes your spells more powerful and effective.

Despite the various conflicting methods of dressing a candle, you can’t go wrong if you get your intentions right!

Some like rubbing oil in the center of the candle and then rubbing down from the center of the candle to the bottom. Some rub from the center up.

When you cast a spell that will bring you something, rub the oil down from the top of the candle. If you’re doing a spell that gets rid of something, rub the oil in from the bottom up. Always swipe the candle in the same direction.

Whichever direction you choose to anoint your candle in, make sure you focus on and visualize your goal as you light your candle. For example, if your goal is to make more money, imagine yourself gaining wealth as you rub the candle.

You can also use herbs, chopped or powdered, in your oils.

Certain oils and combinations of herbs help achieve different results. Cinnamon Oil, Clove Oil, and Attraction Oil are best for love spells, All Spice Oil and Better Business Oil are good for money spells, and Rosemary Oil and Dragon’s Blood Oil are best for breaking a witch or cross state. There are many other oils and herbs that match your magic and your desires.

Carve and label your candle

After you have cleaned and anointed your candle, you may wish to carve symbols, letters, drawings or words directly onto the candle. You can engrave your name or the names of your loved ones or symbols like a dollar sign or a heart. If the spell is for a specific event, carve the date on the candle. Not only does this help you focus on your desired outcome, but it also sends intent out into the universe. You can carve with a pin or knife, or have it pre-carved with your writing.

Besides carving, you can also write a petition on a piece of paper and put it under the candle or candlestick. When you light a candle for someone, including a picture of him or her under the candle can help achieve your desired outcome.

Prepare your candle with sachet and dusting powder

A popular final step is to sprinkle your candle and/or cast a magic circle around your candle. This can be done with sachet and sprinkle powders like Cascarilla. Simply select a powder that works with your desired spell and sprinkle onto your candle. Putting a circle around the candle will serve as protection for you.
