Couple creates egg website and sells more than 80,000 units per month

They could have done like many informal entrepreneurs in the countryside and in the outskirts of the country: bought a van, installed a sound box and started selling eggs, “30 units for 10 reais… road”.

But they decided to innovate and go further. Passionate about technology, they turned a traditional business into a startup. And, in May 2017, they launched Site do Ovo, a company that offers subscription plans for egg delivery.

Today the awesome.club will tell you a little about the trajectory of this enterprising couple and their very innovative business.

Leonardo Araújo and Perlla Pinheiro, are from Salvador, Bahia. Partners, married and in love with the business, persisted a lot to build exactly the company they would like to work for. And they had the idea of ​​selling, in a different way, one of the most consumed foods in Brazil — each Brazilian consumes, on average, 212 eggs per year, according to the Associação Brasileira de Proteína Animal (ABPA).

Many people end up thinking the idea came about because they were already working with an egg car, but it came from the other side, that of technology. Leonardo and Perlla have always been passionate about innovation and technology, so they saw an opportunity to completely change the way they buy eggs. They decided to offer the convenience of a practical and recurring service.

To test it, they launched a test platform — without even having, at that time, a contracted egg supplier. And on the first day, he already had a client. It was at that moment that they realized that it was necessary to accelerate the project before someone else had the same idea. The couple then partnered with suppliers from Ceasa in Salvador and sought out Sebrae to help manage the business. In an interview with the program Encontro com Fátima Bernades, Leonardo and Perlla revealed that they sell around 80,000 eggs per month and these numbers keep growing.

You can choose between white, red, free-range, organic and more omega 3 eggs, as well as quail eggs. The service also offers weekly, biweekly or monthly delivery options. With a system that is 100% online, the subscriber does not have to place the same order every month; renewal happens automatically on the credit card, much like a Netflix subscription, for example. Delivery is free on any plan.

This food was for a long time on the list of villains and, currently, there are still those who criticize it. But more and more research shows the benefits of consuming eggs. It is a cheap food, with high nutritional value and high absorption.
