Experts at Swiss bank UBS have calculated how much basic items cost today for a modern young man. In the experiment, the prices of 8 products that are very popular among young people in the 11 largest cities in the world were compared. And we’re not kidding, ladies and gentlemen: the list is really surprising.
O awesome.club proposes that you compare the prices of the city where you live (in dollars) with those practiced in the megalopolises, to get an idea of what it is like to live in these places. Also, you can prepare your wallet if you are planning to visit one of these cities.
The “must have” set is made up of the following items:
Warning! If you consider yourself a young person, but your set of personal things is very different, or if you consider some of these objects as superfluous, take into account that this is the average set of the globalized world. It is obvious that no one denies the existence of special cases, but they are not the subject of this post. We are talking about the average youth.
We will start with the cheapest city, going to the most expensive, taking into account that the price of jeans is based on brands aimed at the masses, the sneakers are from well-known sports brands, that the Netflix plan is the cheapest, the iPhone is model X and that the price of avocado is determined for each kilo.
11. Hong Kong: US$ 1,825
Surprisingly, a modern person has an easier time living in one of the most expensive cities in the world. The notebook and iPhone here cost less than elsewhere ($9 less than in the US), which basically determines the values on this list. Not to mention the cheap Big Mac, wow!
10. Dubai: US$ 2004
The skyscraper city in the middle of the desert, filled with sheiks and cheetahs, has also turned out to be surprisingly democratic in terms of the prices of basic items.
9. Bangkok: US$ 2,130
The city, in Thailand, is considered the second official capital of lively bachelor parties, with its cheap food and drinks.
8. New York: US$ 2,369
The place of origin of at least a third of the things featured here also ranks high on the list, which makes perfect sense.
7. Paris: US$ 2,487
The fashion capital charges a high price for clothes and shoes, but the same cannot be said for gadgets.
6. Toronto: US$ 2,535
Canadian prices are not surprising. Only coffee is noteworthy for being relatively cheap.
5. Zurich: US$ 2,567
One thing is for sure: if you want to dress up and then eat at McDonald’s, Switzerland is your place. But the Netflix subscription is the most expensive.
4. London: US$ 2,725
The life of modern young people in the metropolis, one of the most cosmopolitan in the world, is very expensive. What else can we say at these prices?
3. Moscow: US$ 3,354
Unexpectedly, one of the most expensive cities for modern people is the Russian capital. There, clothes and electronic devices are very expensive. The situation is not reversed even with the cheapest Big Mac in the world. So, if you’re going to see the World Cup games, prepare your pockets!
2. Johannesburg: US$3,487
South Africa’s largest city has the cheapest coffee on the list and the most expensive laptops.
1. Buenos Aires: US$ 3,696
Cheap coffee, cheap avocado, cheap jeans… and an iPhone that costs $2,243! It’s almost double the amount charged in the US. It is the Apple device that makes the Argentine capital occupy the first position on the list.
