In fact, a study done by the University of Texas and funded by the US National Dairy Council and the National Fluid Milk Processor Promotion Board found that athletes who drank low-fat chocolate milk after training in place of a carb-based or no-calorie sports had more power and pedaled faster than the others.

Cocoa beans are rich in flavonoids. As such, dark chocolate in particular is a great source of these compounds, which are antioxidants and may reduce the risk of heart disease.

Consuming moderate amounts of chocolate, according to Harvard experts, was also associated with a lower risk of atrial fibrillation. It is an irregular heartbeat condition, which can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure and other heart complications.

So, if released by your doctor, candy can be a good ally for the heart.

Research published in Harvard Health Publishing in 2014 concluded that chocolate may also be good for your memory.

The study had two groups. The first, with adults who took a high-flavonoid cocoa supplement for three months. The second, with adults who consumed a cocoa supplement with low content of the compound.

As a result, scholars noticed that people in the first group performed better on memory tests than those in the other.

Additionally, a 2012 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine reported that the places with the most chocolate consumption have the highest number of Nobel Prize winners.
