Be careful with the ingredients of cleansing milks

A lot of things accumulate on the skin of the face in the course of a day. In the morning you can put on a day cream, sunscreen and makeup, each product with various ingredients. Added to this are sebum, sweat, dust and dirt from the air. Obviously all this mixture must disappear from the face, because the skin wants to breathe at night.

But part of the skin’s own protective oily layer is lost in the cloak of dirt. Cleansing milk is the product chosen by many people to tackle this hygiene because it is mild and is recommended for dry, mature or sensitive skin.

Look carefully at the ingredients

Milks are generally mild, but some may contain aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH), that can contaminate petroleum-derived ingredients, such as paraffins. This would be sufficient reason to discard a product because some compounds in the MOAH group are suspected of causing cancer.

Consumers rightly expect something different in facial cleansing products that are sold under the label “gentle for skin” and can even be found in pharmacies.

You can also find organic halogen compounds and preservatives such as chlorphenin, which it is considered allergenic and it can cause skin irritation.

Another negative aspect is that the fragrance “lilial” (butylphenyl methylpropional) can still be found in some cleansing milks, a molecule that has been classified as toxic for reproduction and that, by decision of the European health authorities, it may not be for sale in products that are sold as of March 1.

The way to avoid all these risks is to choose certified natural or organic cosmetic products that cannot contain petroleum derivatives.

What is facial cleansing milk used for?

Facial cleansing milk cleanses the skin but does not do so with the help of surfactants (detergents), as gels and soaps do. Detergents can be more or less aggressive with the skin and, above all, they remove its protective fat.

Cleansing milks are softer because they are emulsions. contain oils and water which are mixed with the help of emulsifiers. This blend surrounds greasy dirt such as sebum, dust and cream residue and removes it without damaging the skin’s lipid layer. Cleansing milk does not degrease the skin as much

Strictly speaking, emulsifiers in cleansing milk are also surfactants, but they are used much more sparingly in cleansing milk than in washing gels, for example.

Even a coat of powder and makeup it can be removed with cleansing milk without rubbing too much. Makeup can also be washed off with soap or washing gel, but they contain surfactants and you have to rub much more.

Cleaning with an emulsion does not degrease the skin as much as washing with soap and water or a washing gel. Some manufacturers even claim on their packaging that their productor “keep” the protective layer of the skin.

But each cleaning removes some of this protective layer, a mixture of skin oils, dead cells, salts and amino acids. Otherwise, the dirt would also stay there, and that would also disturb the balance of the skin.

Wash with water after using the milk. Almost all manufacturers say on their packaging that their products should be rinsed with water. We recommend that you do so, otherwise undesirable substances, such as PEGs, surfactants or pollutants, could remain on the skin. Use it to remove make-up. Depending on the fat content, some products may even remove waterproof cosmetics. Watch out for the eyes. Only some cleansing milks are suitable for removing make-up from the eyes, because their ingredients do not spread and do not reach where they can cause itching and irritation.

Bet on certified natural cosmetic products

If you want to play it safe, buy certified natural cosmetics. It guarantees that you will not find toxic chemicals and your skin and your health will thank you. AND

certified products contain quality raw materials, natural and beneficial oils. Instead of synthetic detergents and emulsifiers, they contain saponins from vegetables, with a similar effect, but much milder. The oils and perfumes are also entirely vegetable.

They also opt for sustainable, recyclable packaging and clean and environmentally friendly production methods.
