Ana Furtado and Boninho’s relationship shows that reconciling love and friendship can be the best choice for life

Together for 26 years, journalist, actress and presenter Ana Furtado and her husband, the director of varieties at Rede Globo, José Bonifácio Brasil de Oliveira, better known as Boninho, live what seems to be an eternal honeymoon. After going through important challenges, they were able to strengthen even more the friendship and care that unites them, valuing — and declaring — their love every day.

In mid-1996, Ana Furtado began the work that would change her life in an unimaginable way! At the age of 22, the actress, who had already worked as a model and starred in the opening of the soap opera Explode Coração (1995), accepted to be one of the presenters of the Sunday program Ponto a Ponto (1996). With Danielle Winits and Márcio Garcia, Ana led a kind of competition between pairs of students from different Brazilian schools, challenged to face electrifying tests.

The beauty and competence of the presenter did not go unnoticed by a rising talent at the station. It was Boninho who, in the same year, acted as general director of the children’s attraction Angel Mix (1996), presented by Angélica. “He had already looked at me, seen me, been interested. He used to go there to visit me in the studio, but he wouldn’t talk to me. I didn’t even know who he was,” Ana said.

March 21, 1996 marked the couple’s meeting — and it hasn’t ended yet, since according to Ana, from that day forward, the two never parted. “Our meeting was special at first. And from that day forward we never parted. Exactly four years later, March 21, 2000, we made our union official. Time flew!”, said Ana.

Both she and Boninho changed over time, but the love between them grew, matured, remained strong and light. “I thank you for our complicity, partnership, friendship. For your care and affection. For the butterflies in my stomach that I still feel after so many years. For having found my best friend in life in my great love! A lifetime with him is not enough. Together we are unstoppable,” she posted in love.

Boninho guarantees that he is an old-fashioned boyfriend and that, for him, romanticism should not go out of style. “I like to open the car door for her. To give flowers on special days and on others too. Remember the date of our wedding and even the date of dating. Cook for her. To fill her with pampering, affection and telling her how important she is to me. I love this beautiful woman.”

Their only child, Isabella, was born seven years later. And with the baby came the couple’s first big challenge, as Ana had postpartum depression. The actress tells when she realized that something was not right with her: “I had a very big grip on my heart and I saw that something in me was wrong. And it wasn’t the pressure of routine, of work, of the house, of the daughter. It was a chemical thing, inside of me,” she says.

Ana did not wait for the disease to get worse and as soon as she noticed these symptoms, she looked for a doctor. With proper medication and guidance, she recognized herself again: “In six months, I had returned to being the person I am: happy, spontaneous, who gesticulates a lot. At that time, I didn’t even realize that I wasn’t smiling anymore, that I was putting myself in a shell,” she said.

In 2018, another blow took the couple by surprise: Ana was diagnosed with breast cancer, while undergoing her routine exams. Treatment lasted until 2019, when she finally overcame the disease. “From diagnosis — like a scare — to treatment, it was a difficult period. I will never forget the first moments. From the fear of losing my passion and finally, from the success of the treatment”, said Boninho.

Ana highlights the fundamental role that her husband assumed in her treatment and in the healing process, pointing out that her partner prepared everything around her, making her feel good, beautiful, safe, happy and comfortable all the time: “He he spared no effort to provide me with these sensations throughout this process. And knowing that he was there by my side, no matter what, whenever I needed it, that was my great strength.”

In the midst of such important challenges, the couple learned to live each day in a special way, always making the love, respect, affection and admiration they feel for each other very clear, transforming marriage into an eternal courtship: “Today it is not the day of any special occasion. Living each day by your side is the special occasion. Waking up and remembering that my love is my best friend is the special occasion. And I want to celebrate that every day.”

Boninho also melts for his wife in many statements on social networks: “Ana is my safe haven, my friend, companion, my passion. She makes me feel good and makes me smile. She is the love of my life, my light. Friend and inspiration”, he says.

The director says that, like every couple, they also have some differences, but, in general, they like the same things and have a lot of fun together, and continues: “I love waking up next to her and I miss her when I’m away. I love every minute of our lives and make plans for our future. We will be together for life, this is my dream, our destiny”, he concludes.
