Adopt these 5 commandments to avoid hair breakage –

Your damaged hair may have its days numbered! Just pay attention to what you eat and adopt beauty habits for your hair. Here are our commandments for one to avoid hair breakage:

5 commandments to prevent hair breakage

1. Include protein and omega-3 in the menu

Almost 80% of human hair is made up of keratin, which is a type of protein. In addition to satisfying hunger for longer and ensuring a strong body, the nutrient is associated with hair growth and strength. Therefore meat, poultry, fish and dairy products are mandatory in the daily diet. Not to mention the irresistible avocado + egg combo… I was hungry!

2. Leave hair free, light and loose

Despite being practical and versatile, the ponytail can damage the hair. Those who tie too tightly, start a process of weakening the scalp. The result? Possible fall and flaws all over the head – in addition to breakage in the elastic region. The extreme solution is to leave the hairstyle aside for a while. If that’s impossible, opt for a cotton-lined fastener or one made of thin stockings – and don’t over-tighten, okay?

3. Prefer sulfate-free shampoo

Free sulfate products are free of heavy detergents such as sodium lauryl sulfate (LSS), a substance known to make foam, but which also removes the hair’s natural protection, drying out and causing frizz and break. Before you buy your next shampoo, take a look at the ingredients list.

4. Buy the ideal comb (or brush) for your hair type

A lot of people are unaware of how the correct comb can help with the health of the hair and avoid problems such as hair breakage and frizz. Curly hair, for example, needs combs with wider teeth, as they are thinner and more fragile. “Curly hairs are also very fine, which is why they ask for accessories with a distance that varies from 4 to 6 millimeters between the teeth, known as a fork comb”, says Ivan Santos, personal hair at shades studio. People who have straight hair can use plastic combs with not-too-spaced teeth, or a racket brush – square, rounded or oval.

There is no way to talk about combs without also talking about the correct way to untangle. Ivan Santos explains that each texture requires a different step by step. “For curly strands, the correct thing is to make a circular line, starting at the tip of the eyebrow and following over the ear until completing a circle. Secure the upper part, dampen the lower part and start detangling from the ends, progressively working towards the roots. Then release the top part and repeat the process. Oils, silicone and leave-in can be used to assist in the process”, he guides.

Those with curly hair can’t help but moisten the length. “Make a division starting at the forehead (middle of the forehead) to the back of the neck and then debt from ear to ear, in a cross shape. After securing the 4 sections, start by untangling the bottom part, from the ends to the root, working your way to the top. Oils and silicone can also be used to facilitate untangling”, clarifies Ivan.

Finally, the straight wires. “Normally, the use of a spray bottle or oil and silicone is not indicated, because these products leave the hair straight very heavy and oily. To untangle it, make a division by securing the upper part and start untangling the lower part, from the ends to the root, in a delicate way, without forcing the strands.”
