O awesome.club brought together some more than original examples of dishes that seem unappetizing to many people, but which for others are true delicacies.

A single warning: if you are very sensitive or if you are eating at that exact moment, it might be better to read this post later.

1. “Living marine rock” Pyura chilensis

These creatures are found near the coast of Peru and Chile. Due to its unique structure, the Pyura chilensis accumulates vanadium metal in large quantities. However, its meat is much appreciated for its delicate aroma, being consumed in different ways. As they say, it’s all a matter of personal taste…

2. Bivalve mollusc generous panopea

This unique looking mollusk is very common in North America. It is often used in the preparation of sushi and sashimi. It is an expensive food, so much so that, in Hong Kong markets, a unit can reach 60 dollars. THE generous panopea it lives for a long time: if it is not eaten before, it can reach 100 or 150 years.

3. Fungus hericium erinaceus

4. Seal stuffed with birds: kiviak

This festive dish is very popular among the peoples who inhabit Greenland, although it is not recommended for those with a sensitive stomach. It is prepared as follows: seal skin is stuffed with 400 robins (a species of charadriform bird). After being sealed with bacon, it is placed under a stone, left there for 3 to 18 months. After that time, the birds are plucked and eaten. The dish is said to have a flavor reminiscent of spicy cheese.

5. Boiled head, feet and rumen: kelle pacha

The dish, which resembles jash, is very common in Middle Eastern countries. The head, rumen and legs of lamb are cooked for a long time. After that, the delicacy is cut by the most respected member of the family. It is probably this person who is more cold-blooded.

6. Ant larvae: escamoles

Escamoles are also known as ant caviar and are very popular in Mexico. The ants used in the dish won’t go down without a good fight, and it’s not easy to get some grubs. And this affects the price of the product, of course. But it’s all worth it: the maggots taste deliciously like cottage cheese and are incredibly healthy.

7. Live and raw octopus: San-nakji

If you’ve ever dreamed of eating something that looks at you while you devour it, maybe this dish is for you. Koreans love to eat a live octopus, with everything in it. The waiter simply takes the animal out of the aquarium and puts it on the plate, sprinkling it with sesame seeds. That is to say, in a peculiar way. Worst of all, if you chew on a tentacle without paying enough attention, an unsuspecting person can end up dying after the piece sticks to your throat.

Manjar is a typical Icelandic dish. Because fresh peregrine or bowhead shark meat is poisonous, it is left for 5 to 8 weeks to rot. It is then hung for another 2 to 4 months. At the end of these processes, producers obtain a yellowish food with a controversial taste.

9. Alcoholic drink based on dead seagull

The exotic drink is made by Canadian Eskimos (inuit), and is said to taste incredibly unpleasant, but it has the power to cure the worst of hangovers. The recipe is as follows: a dead seagull is taken, which is placed in water and left for a couple of days in direct sunlight. After some mysterious processes, the wine is ready… Yuck!
