9 Tips to find out if the products are fresh and healthy

There are supermarkets everywhere and with a variety of products, but choosing fresh food is not easy. Sometimes vegetables and fruits are spoiled, green or tasteless. But all this can be avoided by knowing some good tricks.

When choosing olives, it is better to give preference to pitted ones. After removing the pits, the olives are placed in brine, which gives them a pasty texture. Also, they absorb the liquid, which interferes with the taste.

Salmon

It’s a paradox, but fresh fish shouldn’t have a very strong fishy smell. If you smell a strong odor, then it’s most likely not fresh.

Another sign is color. Farm-raised salmon is usually light pink, while wild salmon is a darker shade. If there are gray or brown spots on the surface of the meat, this also indicates that the fish has been stored for too long.

Fresh dates can be wrinkled, but not too much, and they shouldn’t be too hard. Also, they should not have sugar crystals or white spots, as this indicates that the rotting process has already begun.

When buying beets, it’s best to choose one that still has the leaves attached to the beet: this way it’s easier to tell if the vegetable is fresh. But it is not always possible to find beets with leaves, so it is worth paying attention to their size and roots. It is better to choose a small beet with a root that is not too long, because otherwise there is a risk that the vegetable will be hard and not be sweet.

Quail egg

When choosing quail eggs, the first step is to carefully check and inspect the state of the shell, which must not be damaged. It is worth bearing in mind the shelf life of this food: up to 30 days at room temperature, and up to 60 — in the refrigerator. If you don’t have the date, you can determine whether eggs are fresh by weight. The fresh egg will weigh 10-12 g. If the weight is much less, it means that quail eggs (like any other type of egg) have already started to spoil, so it’s better to choose different ones.

Avocado

Any obvious spot that differs from the main color indicates that there is something wrong with the fruit. Avocados with dark marks on the skin should be avoided, as this is usually a sign that the rotting process has begun. You can also press the area next to the stalk; if it sinks, the fruit is probably too ripe.

Pomegranate

Sicilian lemon

First, a good Sicilian lemon can be identified by its weight and the thickness of the rind. The fruit may look small, but it must be heavy. Thin bark and a slight hole around the grooved stalk is also a good sign. They indicate that Sicilian lemon has a high mineral content.
