9 oils that are great for relieving pain

Essential oils are widely used in alternative medicine to treat physical or psychological problems. There is even scientific research being done to prove the effectiveness of oils as anti-inflammatory in relieving pain.

And since chronic inflammation is often the body’s response to problems such as stress and irritation, oils can also be helpful if included in your daily routine, acting as a preventative.

They can be used in many different ways: inhaling, massaging, bathing, or even ingested in capsules. But the use cannot be done without first consulting a doctor, because, even though they are beneficial, the oils can have side effects. A professional will know how to indicate the right amount, as well as the best way to use it for each person. Meet some that can help soothe the pain.

1. Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is effective in managing the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome, which causes abdominal pain and bloating. It has also been used for tension headaches and muscle pain.

2. Rosehip oil

It contains polyphenols (antioxidants) and anthocyanins (the dark blue pigment in many foods and plants), which can help reduce joint inflammation and pain. It may be a good option for people who cannot take NSAIDs or other medications.

3. Lavender oil

Long known for helping people with sleep problems and anxiety, it can also be helpful for headaches. Studies have shown that inhaling this essential oil relieves migraines and that it has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.

4. Evening primrose oil

Great for relieving PMS symptoms or cramps. It is also widely used as a treatment for breast pain and menopausal symptoms. Although much studied, there is still no definitive proof.

5. Flaxseed oil

Flaxseed oil has good fats such as omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which makes it beneficial for overall health due to its pain-relieving anti-inflammatory properties. It can improve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, but more studies are needed on this.

6. Sage oil

Sage is an herb widely used in cooking, in teas, and in aromatherapy for natural medicinal purposes. Rich in antioxidants, this oil has anti-inflammatory effects. If used in massage, it can reduce the intensity and duration of menstrual cramps. It also helps to lower blood pressure, calm anxiety and improve your mood.

7. Eucalyptus oil

Studies have proven its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, which makes inhaling eucalyptus essential oil to reduce pain and lower blood pressure. Use while showering.

8. Rosemary oil

The essential oil of this popular herb is one of the most used in aromatherapy to reduce pain. Studies have proven that it actually has analgesic properties and is an effective auxiliary treatment.

9. Juniper oil

It’s not as studied as others, but some research has found that it can aid in pain relief and relaxation, especially if used alongside another essential oil.

While essential oils do not cure chronic pain or muscle pain, they are a natural complement to other treatments and remedies. They can be used to improve overall health and well-being. But always remember to consult a doctor to avoid risks.
