7 curious things your voice reveals about you

Did you know that it takes less than a second to discover your personality just by listening to your voice? Well, it may sound unbelievable, but your speech characteristics can literally say a lot about you. In addition to being unique, it also contains useful and sometimes unexpected information.

At the incredible.club we are amazed at the hidden cues that can be easily detected just by listening to someone’s voice. Height, timbre and other special details about the person can be detected just by listening to the person speak, regardless of whether the person is visible or not. But what, after all, can our speech reveal about us?

1. Sociability

Your voice can indicate your personality or, more specifically, whether you are extrovert or introvert. During one study, participants listened to computer-generated speech modeled to sound like the voices of introverts and extroverts.

And surprisingly, they were able to identify people’s personalities. Extroverts speak faster and louder; introverts, on the contrary, express their thoughts more quietly and moderately.

2. Reliability

A simple “Hello!” you can say how reliable or unreliable you are. Volunteers in another study heard 64 versions of the same word. And almost all of them chose men who raised their voices at the end of the pronunciation as being more reliable. For women, however, the perception was the opposite; those who lowered their pitch to pronounce the end of the word were considered the most reliable.

3. Height

4. Fertility

The menstrual cycle not only affects mood and hormone fluctuations, but also the voice. According to this study, the tone of voice becomes higher as ovulation approaches. Therefore, women with a higher pitched voice may be the most fertile.

5. Strength

The voice is able to indicate whether a person is strong or not in the upper body. Participants in one study listened to the voices of men from different countries speaking their native language and then rated their strength. Surprisingly, they were able to accurately determine their strength. Stronger men had a deeper voice.

6. Professionalism

Your voice can influence your career. This study found that people who experience a popping effect in their voice output, better known as vocal fry, give the image of being less educated and less competent. And this occurs especially with women, and may even influence an employer’s decision for another candidate.

7. Parkinson’s disease

The voice changes may indicate Parkinson’s disease. Patients with this disease have slow speech, the voice becomes lower, and a little shortness of breath appears. People begin to speak in a monotonic manner and, in more advanced stages of the disease, the tremors become more evident.

Have you ever impressed someone using just your voice? Can you describe your way of speaking in just a few sentences? We would like to know more about you in the comments.
