1. Immediate internal temperature control
during the physical exercises, the heart pumps more blood in order to transport oxygen to the muscles being used – and this causes our internal temperature to increase. This is where the main function of perspiration comes in: “Regulating our body temperature”, says Caio Lamunier de Abreu Camargo, a dermatologist at the Brazilian Society of Dermatology. Sweat is the body’s way of eliminating this concentrated heat to prevent fainting, heat stroke and kidney problems.
2. Body protection
Sweating the top triggers a series of beneficial reactions to the body, such as the activation of a category of proteins that protects and protects the body against inflammations that affect metabolism as a whole.
3. Guaranteed more energy in training
It may even sound strange, but a fit body starts sweating right at the beginning of the exercise. This happens because the organism of those who are used to an active routine learns to regulate the body temperature and keep it stable from the beginning of the effort, guaranteeing extra energy during the whole workout.

4. Shielding against infections
Sweat contains a antibiotic natural product called dermicidin and, therefore, acts as a protective film capable of annihilating a series of harmful microorganisms at the slightest contact, especially those that walk freely in gyms.
5. Combating cramps
Water makes up 99% of sweat – the remaining 1% is usually made up of salt, potassium and carbohydrates. The more you sweat, the faster your body learns to eliminate the right amount of each substance to keep your body in balance. This is important with regard to the prevention of crampsbecause the substances that make up sweat act directly on muscle contractions.
6. Improved self-esteem
Everyone who trains knows that physical change only comes with time and dedication. But perspiration offers an immediate benefit: satisfaction. Looking at yourself in the mirror with a dripping forehead is a sign that you’re running (often literally) after your goals – and it’s only a matter of time before you cross the finish line. “Moreover, many people relate the feeling of pleasure from the hormones released during physical activity to sweat”, says Caio.
