4 ways to find joy in an unhappy relationship

Share:

There are many reasons why people settle into unhappy relationships, but anyone who thinks this means they can’t lead a happy life is wrong. Everyone can find the path to happiness, even in bad situations, through healthy habits – which, with dedication, can solve sentimental problems and bring back the pleasure of the partner’s company. See the paths to follow:

1- Make time to spend with your partner

This can show the complicity that the couple has and even allow them to get to know each other a little more.

2- Remember what you valued in the person

When you first started dating, it’s likely that you were attracted to her differences with your own personality. Maybe you liked the fact that she was impulsive and liked to be spontaneous, for example. Today, however, it may make you very angry. Ideally, remember why you liked these traits at the beginning of the relationship — and try to regain that positive opinion.

3- Talk about positive and negative aspects and difficulties of the relationship

It’s important to recognize what works in the relationship, as well as what doesn’t. If possible, compile a list of these aspects and include any topics that you avoid talking about for fear of sparking arguments.

  • Leave the positives and negatives of the relationship for when you and your partner are calm and focused. Therefore, avoid broaching the topic at the end of long workdays or during stressful times.
  • Start your sentences with “I” instead of “You”. In other words, talk about what you’re feeling and what you see as a problem without blaming the person. Something like “I get irritated when we’re not around each other” is better than “You’re never home”, for example. This phrase can make the person defensive, while that one helps to open up space for a healthy discussion.
  • Listen as much as you speak. Don’t think you just need to expose what’s wrong; you must also be willing to listen to what your partner has to say. Show interest by synthesizing and repeating what he says and asking questions that are relevant to the conversation.

4- Suggest solutions

When you find out exactly what the problems are in the relationship, start thinking about what you can do to solve them. Maybe you don’t use positive points of the relationship?

Agree with your partner on wants and needs so that both of you can decide what is best for the couple. Be willing to let the person “win” discussions on certain issues when there is a conflict of interest, for example.
