My husband and I decided to build a more comfortable and safer place for the duckling to sleep. © tatianos / Pikabu

My youngest daughter was born prematurely and with some health issues. I had to quit my job to take care of her, but unfortunately sick pay didn’t cover all the expenses. Our life was not easy. About four years ago, I took a bus to work. When I walked in, I realized that I was out of money. I wasn’t poor, but I had spent all my bills at the market the day before, and I forgot to withdraw more money. So I told the collector that I didn’t have a penny. A female passenger next to me overheard and paid for my ticket. It was a great gesture on her part. © Natalya Akhmetkhanova / AdMe

Once, I entered my condominium with some purchases, along with a boy of about seven years old, who passed by the entrance next to me. Suddenly he exclaimed:
“Sir, you dropped the potatoes!”
Then he helped me put them back in the bag. Then he took my bag with a watermelon and carried it to the elevator. I asked him:
“Why are you helping me?
“Because I’m a good man.
“And what kind of man is a ‘good man’?”
— He is the one who does good deeds. I learned this in my first year of school.
— And what year are you studying now?
– In the second.
Our conversation ended there, I left on my floor, and the boy continued up to his. Sometimes it seems that children know a lot more than us adults. © trewqyo / Pikabu

I was 18 when I moved from a small town to New York. I was trying to adapt to the local lifestyle. I went to take the metro for the first time and I had no idea how to buy a ticket or card. So I was standing in front of a single machine running with a line forming behind me. People started fighting me and rushing me, which made me even more nervous. Suddenly, a man stepped out of line and asked everyone to calm down. He approached me, showed me step by step how to buy the card and paid for my next 12 tickets. Afterwards, he patted me on the back and said, “Not all New Yorkers are rude.” Since then, I stopped feeling alone in this big city. © Wiffle_Snuff / Reddit

Once, I was crossing a street carrying a sled with my three-year-old son inside. Suddenly I slipped, fell and couldn’t get up; my son stayed in the middle of the street. Then the traffic light changed, and the cars moved on. Then people at the bus stop ran towards him and pulled him off the road. I also received some help: a doctor who was passing by at the time said that I should remain lying down. A stranger spent 20 minutes beside me, when the temperature was −25ºC, calling the ambulance and rushing the paramedics. An elderly lady who lives in the same building as me took off my gloves, put hers on my hands and took my son into our house. When I was about 12, I went with my cousins to a bookstore. We bought some books, went out, started flipping through them and discussing them. At the same time, a gentleman was watching us. Then he went into the bookstore, came out with three gift certificates, walked over, said, “I love to see kids reading,” and gave each of us a gift certificate. I was never so surprised and moved as I was that day. © GabeTheNerd / Reddit

A man saving a baby swan trapped in a fence

I work in a flower shop. Yesterday, I left a vase of petunias outside the store, the price of which is equal to the amount I earn per day. I only remembered him this morning when I was taking the goods out of the establishment. Of course I was very upset, I cried and I didn’t know if someone had stolen it or I had forgotten about it. At lunchtime, a man came:
– Good Morning. I assume these flowers are from your shop. Yesterday, my wife was on the porch when she saw them left in the middle of the street. Here they are.
And held out my vase of petunias. I was speechless: this family acted with such honesty and kindness that it made me believe in humanity again. © Lorrina / Pikabu

10 years ago, after I said goodbye to my boyfriend who went to serve in the army, I was crying at the airport. A woman sat next to me with a large bag and said that she was sorry for my sadness. Suddenly, she pulled a rubber duck out of her bag, which for some reason made me burst out laughing. The woman gave me the duckling and left. I don’t know her name, so whenever I remember that story, I call her “my Mary Poppins”. By the way, I still have the duckling saved. © emerzsile / Reddit

When I was little, I was admitted to the hospital. I was in the same room as a girl from an orphanage who was younger than me. And I met an old lady who worked as a cleaner and used to visit this girl, treating her like her daughter. The woman said she had no children and wanted to adopt her, but she didn’t have enough money or proper housing. I was extremely happy when, a few years later, I found the lady and the girl together. © Podsluschano / Vk

My grandfather used to steal spices and snacks from his favorite restaurant. He also took forks, knives and even some food, without paying. After he passed away, his girlfriend went to the restaurant and confessed to his mania. The manager laughed and said that the staff was aware of his “habit” but had not said anything because he was a regular customer and was very kind to everyone. © Rob Young / Quora

When I was about five years old, in the mid-1970s, I was riding a mechanical horse that rocked back and forth while waiting for my mother to come out of the market. I also remember what that woman looked like, because she made me so happy. © bland3000 / Reddit

I was late and had a lot to do. I ran past a supermarket and came across a kitten looking sadly at everyone and shaking. It was cold and windy, so that even I felt uncomfortable, almost blown away by the wind. I thought about going into the market, buying her some food and running away. I went in, bought it, thought a little more and… I gave up on my plans. Instead, I took the kitten home and stayed with her the entire day. She ended up being so affectionate, asking to lie on my lap and feeling at ease, that I didn’t regret running away from reality. Farmers silent at an auction, no bargaining, so a young man can buy his family’s farm back

I traveled by train with a woman and her son sitting next to me. She went to wash her face and took a makeup case with her. Afterwards, she came back and, after a few minutes, she got up scared: she had forgotten her case in the bathroom, with all the money. Of course someone had already appropriated it. She rummaged through the entire carriage, crying and asking to return at least part of the money, so that they would not go hungry during the next few days of the trip … no one “she confessed”. I gave her 500 reais, gave her my address, and as soon as she got home, she sent me the money back. I arrived in Munich and fell asleep on the subway. After midnight, I woke up at an unfamiliar station. I went outside and was terrified: I was who knows where, broke in the cold and rain, and the local markets were closed. I was about to pass out from nervousness.
