20 Exotic Birds That Don’t Look Like They’re From This Planet

The diversity of the animal kingdom is something fabulous. Species, with their different sizes, colors and even movements, give our Planet a special color. Too bad that, unfortunately, many people do not worry about the disappearance and extinction of several of these species. But that’s not what we’re going to talk about in this post, but the beauty and unique style of some birds.

O awesome.club looked for some of the strangest birds in the world and presents, in this post, a true show of passionate colors and patterns. Check it out!

1. Crimson-faced Sky-Chest

This little turquoise bird is also known as reddish blue, because of the color of the male’s cheeks. Females have a slightly duller plumage, and this is how they can be distinguished. They are found in eastern and central Africa.

2. Red-bellied Kookaburra

In New Guinea and in the nearby islands lives this little bird of very particular colors. It inhabits the dense forest, unlike other species of Kookaburra, which prefer open spaces. It feeds mainly on insects and the males defend their territory with great impetuosity.

3. Taiwanese rook

The yellow-eyed Taiwan jay has a very particular blue tone to its body, as well as red legs and beaks, which make it very different. Its tail is longer than that of a common jay and we can find the species in Taiwan, where it is endemic. It is worth mentioning that it is a monogamous bird, as it remains with the same pair throughout its life.

In Europe and the Middle East, we can find this cute little bird with sharp legs and yellow and blue plumage. Males have a brighter color on the top of the head, which is slightly duller in females. There is a wide variety of subspecies that extend to Africa and the Balearic Islands.

This gray bird is originally from New Caledonia and is recognized by the length of its crest. It has a kind of nasal horn that no other bird has and spends most of its time on the ground. It measures about 55 cm, but unfortunately it is at risk of extinction. Although it has large wings, it is unable to fly.

7. Philippine Eagle

One of the largest birds of prey in tropical regions. It is the national bird of the Philippines and is also known as the monkey eagle, as it feeds on species such as monkeys, snakes and other large birds such as the Hornbill. Females are larger than males.

Also known as a scarlet ibis, its shape is similar to that of a pelican. It is the national bird of Trinidad and Tobago; however, it can also be found in countries like Suriname. As it ages, the color of its red plumage becomes more intense. Unlike other birds, it can locate its food by touch rather than smell.

This strange sedentary bird is found in regions such as Indonesia and Malaysia, where its mythology considers it the guardian of the river that divides the world of the living and the dead. It is a large bird covered in black feathers and has a kind of helmet that extends from the crest to the beak. Males use it as a defense method when competing with other birds for territory.

This red-breasted bird has a very bright blue mask. It was discovered by entomologist Charles Coquerel, who collected insects on the island of Madagascar, where the bird is endemic. That’s why it bears its name, as well as other species such as the Coquerel’s Sifaka and the Coquerel’s Giant Rat Lemur.

It belongs to different regions of America, such as the Amazon rainforest. It measures about 16 cm and is also known as a real flycatcher, because it feeds on these insects. Males have a plume with red and black feathers. Females have a little more orange or yellow.

13. Crimson Bee-eater

Found in southern Africa, this little bird digs tunnels to make its nest, where it lays 2 to 5 eggs. It is a very sociable species, migrating in flocks from north to south. It feeds on flying insects such as bees and others it catches in thickets.

This scavenger also hunts small vertebrate animals around the lakes of the marshy areas and savannah of the African continent. Her weight is approximately 6 kg and she has a height of about 120 cm from tail to head. Life expectancy is 15 years.

With a rooster-like body shape, this peculiar bird can be found in the mountains of northeast India and central China. It feeds mainly on vegetables and is very friendly towards humans, although it is usually quite solitary.

In South Africa we can find this green bird with red eyes. It measures approximately 45 cm, has a greenish plumage with blue wings, in addition to a beautiful plume with white and black tips and eyes that seem to have been outlined in white. It feeds mainly on fruits.

18. Seven-colors-of-the-amazon

Also from South America, this colorful bird with a turquoise chest, yellow back and black eyes is found in flocks of about 16 individuals that feed on fruits and insects. They usually stay in the treetops and leave them after getting their food.

19. Clog Bite

This species of pelican is known for the shape of its beak, which resembles that of a clog. It has a brown coat with a very peculiar hue at birth, which turns gray with age. It lives in southeastern Africa, but is currently in danger of extinction.

20. Kakapo

The kakapo belongs to the parrot family and lives in New Zealand. It is a nocturnal bird and, although it cannot fly, it has a very developed nose. A curious fact about this species is that it is described as an aromatic bird with scents like honey and fruit, or like the inside of a violin case. Unfortunately, this feature makes them easy prey for larger animals.
