18 Hidden Facts in “Round 6” That Even the Most Attentive Fan Might Miss (+ Bonus)

The Round 6 series was a success in 2021 and is expected to have more chapters soon. However, to understand the unfolding of these and the episodes that will follow, it is necessary to have a closer look and not let any detail of the plot escape. Precisely because this is not a simple story, it has intricacies that only those who are very detailed will be able to understand.

We, from awesome.club, we love to entertain you by bringing you interesting and quality content. That’s why we’ve selected 18 parts from the Round 6 series so that fans can understand the whole plot and be able to stay tuned for the next issues.

1. Number 456 repeats itself

In the very first episode, Gi-hun appears betting on a horse race and ends up winning no less than 4,560,000 won. This number seems to follow our character, precisely because in the competition, he is player number 456, coincidence? Will it be?

2. The figure of the horse

The game gives many hints of situations that will happen throughout the plot, as in the part where the main character likes to play in horse races, despite losing almost always. Then, in the bridge game, the characters are symbolized by horse-shaped pieces, which are part of a chess game.

3. The red buttons

Another “coincidence” was when they focused on the red button on the machine he fishes the birthday toy he will give his daughter from. In the game, he also decides to choose the red button, which meant giving up the game, losing everything, but saving his and the other participants’ lives.

4. The pig and its symbolism

As the production of this series is from South Korea, it is normal for them to use oriental symbols to compose their works. The huge transparent pig suspended from the ceiling, which is filled at the end of each game, has a lot to do with the plot. The pig is a symbol of plenty, as the animal reproduces very easily, and that’s all the greedy participants want.

5. The doll avoids a particular player

The doll, which has eyes attentive to the slightest movement, seems to be programmed to let Oh Il-nam (player 001) leave the game unharmed, even if he eventually moves. So much so that she doesn’t select him, even when he faltered at one point in the game, precisely because he’s probably a VIP player.

6. The game scenario

7. Doubles in the marble game

In the scenes of the game of marbles, made in this previously commented scenario, we see something else that few noticed. All pairs are always composed of one participant with an even number and the other odd, without exception.

8. Security monitors are similar to arcade machines

As the plot is about a game, the producers left several items that refer to existing games. In this scene, where the players are monitored, it is possible to see that the equipment that shows what happens in the place is similar to arcade machines, very common at the end of the 20th century.

9. What was the series logo inspired by?

The three geometric shapes on the card and other items in the game are not there by chance, they were inspired by a Korean children’s game called the squid game. However, they also resemble the symbols of the video game controller from the Japanese brand Playstation. Another coincidence is that they use children’s games for competitions, and these are the basic ways of teaching early childhood education.

10. A tip in the archives

When Detective Jun-Ho investigates the files on the competition, he finds a folder from 2020 and the chips start with player 002, there is nothing about 001. It seems that few realize how strange it is to have nothing about player 001, more a hint that he is the creator of the games and one of the VIPs.

11. The hierarchy of game organizers

Although they didn’t say it literally, there was a hierarchy among those people dressed in pink overalls and fencing masks with a symbol on their foreheads. Some say that the position of command depends on how many sides the figure has: circle — workers, triangle — protectors, and square — supervisors. Others theorize that they are the letters of the Korean alphabet for the series’ name: OJM (squid game).

12. References to works of art

The scenario of the game Chips… 1, 2, 3 may have been inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s painting “Wheat Field” (1888). This theory appears when the detective finds, in the corrupt policeman’s house, several books by famous artists. Possibly these books and works inspired the scenario of the plot.

13. Sugar hive game

Despite player 001 hinting that maybe the figures on the playground could be part of the game, player 456 ended up taking the umbrella. He brings up a childhood memory to explain his choice, saying that he always forgot the item he was going to and that he was punished by his mother. Those who are good at perceiving the details, managed to identify that he really forgot one of these when he went to his ex-wife’s house.

14. The colors in the series

Some colors also have strong symbology in the game, such as those on the cards and seem to be a reference to the flag of South Korea, the country of origin of the series. The blue and red colors of the Yin Yang symbolize the duality of existence, such as life and death, one of the themes of the plot. They appear not only on the cards at the beginning, but on the main character’s hair and clothes in the last chapter.

The black that is on the flag also has an interesting meaning, there the four symbols represent water, sky, earth and fire. These elements govern our lives and that’s why the leader of the game, the masked man or Front Man, also comes all in black. Precisely because apparently he is in charge of the plot from beginning to end.

15. The animal masks

VIPs are the people who watch the disputes in a private room and bet on who will win the game. They appear wearing masks because they don’t want to be identified. They are golden to show their economic power and influence, and they are animal because they symbolize inhumanity. The theory is that they want to show that the “game has turned” and that man is now the game and the animals, the hunters.

16. The corridors are getting darker

Something that perhaps few have noticed is that throughout the plot, and with the elimination of participants, the narrow and colorful corridors where participants and organizers circulate, become darker. A way to give suspense and increase the dramatic load of the series. One theory is that this setting may have been inspired by the Relativity illustration by Dutch artist MC Escher.

17. 001’s Jacket

18. Classical music

Classical songs are often used in suspense and horror films, and Round 6 was no different:

In the first chapter, the players were awakened by Haydn’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra in E flat major, it was repeated in the plot other times to emphasize the suspense; Another one heard in the plot was An der schönen by Johann Strauss II, baluen Donau (Blue Danube Waltz); And at the end of the second set we can hear Tchaikovsky’s Serenade for Strings in C Major.

The Blue Danube Waltz in the series was not a coincidence, it is also played in the movie Battle Royale. For those who don’t know, Round 6 was inspired by the Battle Royale manga and the books that became the Hunger Games series, information given by the author himself, Hwang Dong-hyuk.

Bonus: Trivia

1. The values of the “prizes”

Netflix itself published a list in which it insisted on transforming the values of the series into real ones. From the ones that seem small, like what Seong Gi-Hun won in each round of the DDakji game, to the impressive final prize of the game.

2. French fries… 1, 2, 3

The doll from the first competition of the plot speaks part of the song of the children’s game, which in Portuguese is called: Batatinha Frita… 1, 2, 3! But what few know is that the music of this game has variations around the world, in Korean the pronunciation would be: “mugunghwa kkoci pieot seumnida”, which in free translation into our language means: “the hibiscus flower has bloomed”.

3. A real phone on the card

The production of the series made a small mistake that ended up giving a big headache to a South Korean trader. The number that appears on the invitation card is a real phone number; this lady who did not want to be identified, said in an interview that she receives calls every day and at any time. Netflix offered 5 million won (about 23 thousand reais) for her to change her number, but she did not accept it and they ended up editing that part in the series.
