When telling stories, the characters that appear in the movies tend to have a personality of their own that connects in different ways with the spectators. However, on certain occasions, the audience can feel more empathy for a supporting actor than for the protagonists, consequently stealing not only the scene, but the hearts of their fans.
O awesome.club prepared a list of some of these secondary characters who grew so much in their original films, to the point that the producers, in recognition of their work, decided to make a feature (or more) specifically of them, so they could star in their own production on the big screen.
1. Minions / My favorite evil
My favorite evil premiered in 2010, with a good reception from the public. Gru, the protagonist, won the sympathy of viewers. However, our hearts were stolen by the multitude of secondary characters. Without saying a single word (at least not one that is clearly understood), the Minions have garnered enough attention to earn their own movie series, of which we’ve already seen the first part, and a second is about to be released.
2. The Penguins of Madagascar / Madagascar
Madagascar put on the scene the story of Alex, the lion who was not only the protagonist of the film, but also of the zoo where he lived with other species. This thread gave rise to other small stories such as the lemurs on the island to which the lion arrives with his friends, and the penguins in the arctic area of the park. These latest fun characters have managed to create such an authentic aura on screen that they deserve a spin off in the form of a series that lasted three seasons and was broadcast on Nickelodeon. In addition, in 2014 they debuted their own movie in theaters.
3. LEGO Batman / A Lego adventure
A Lego adventure shows the chaotic fun that represents a child’s play. In this first film, several characters appear interacting to save creativity. One of the heroes with the most iconic personality of the saga is Batman from the LEGO version. The character’s excellent reception by the public earned him his own film, and a second part has already been announced for 2022.
4. Puss in Boots / Shrek
within the universe of Shrek we find several characters from different tales, such as the Gingerbread Man (or Gingerbread Man), Pinocchio and The Three Little Pigs, which take us directly back to our childhood. In the second part of the saga Shrek, One appeared that stole the hearts of spectators, Puss in Boots, a character voiced by Antonio Banderas. Then, in 2011, this friendly feline got his own movie.
5. Dory / Looking for Nemo
After Looking for Nemo won the Oscar for Best Animated Film in 2003, Pixar Studios was enchanted by one of its characters, the forgotten fish Dory. In 2016, he debuted his own film. On that occasion, her life was told from a very young age, when she was still with her family, turning the narrative into a very moving story.
6. Maleficent / Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty It has gone through several adaptations from the classic Perrault tale and then through the magic touch given by the animation studios. Disney gave personality to the characters and included Aurora in the acclaimed club of their princesses. However, Maleficent, who played the role of villain in the 1959 film, reappeared with her own production, released in 2014, in which her version of events was told. The audience response was so good that a second part was recorded.
7. Wolverine / X-Men
The Marvel universe has offered a number of possibilities to characters who deserve their own story. Without a doubt, Wolverine is one of those with a complex life and has always been a favorite of the X-Men. This mutant has a history that is difficult for him to remember, which allowed him to connect with viewers, who were able to learn more about his origins in this film.
8. Tinkerbell / Peter Pan
Peter Pan’s inseparable companion has always remained mute, gesticulating a lot and filling the screen with magic. Even so, Tinkerbell (Sininho, in Brazil) captured the hearts of viewers, and in 2008 he gained a voice in his own film, which made it possible to produce several sequels in which the wonderful world of fairies was further explored.
9. Shaun the Sheep / Wallace & Gromit
The genius of animations Wallace and Gromit has spawned characters that are adored not just by children, and Shaun is one of the most beloved in this particular universe of plasticine creatures. This ram won the hearts of the public thanks to his ingenious solutions to solve the problems of the farm where he lived.
10. Deadpool / X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Within the Marvel universe itself, there are several characters that allow you to focus attention on new stories. Deadpool first appeared in the film dedicated to Wolverine, in which viewers could see how Stryker turned him into a killing machine (closing his mouth, since he didn’t know how to keep quiet). This irreverent and talkative character won his first film in 2016, and continues to keep the interest of an audience eager for unconventional protagonists.
11. Kronk / The Emperor’s New Groove
The Emperor’s New Groove had its distinguishing mark: the protagonist’s megalomania, which was mixed with a competition program structure. This movie showed us everything Kuzco had to learn before leading the empire. This is exactly where Kronk’s diligence contrasted sharply with the protagonist, which allowed him to win the audience and the right to have his own film in 2005, a kind of sequel to the original plot.
12. Harley Quinn / Suicide squad
The character’s own aesthetic made her one of the favorite costumes for parties, even years after the premiere of Suicide squad. The girl who was able to blend two seemingly opposite components, like criminal aggression and the sweetness of a cheerleader, had her own movie in 2020, Birds of Prey — Harley Quinn and Her Fantabulous Emancipation.
13. Joker / Batman
The Joker was a character closely followed by fans due to his intensity, laughing all the time but always tormented. While in previous films it was Batman who appropriated the screen to leave the role of antagonist to the Joker, in the 2019 film, starring this villain, which encompasses the entire plot, Bruce Wayne is only mentioned.
14. Dark Phoenix / X-Men
When it comes to power, Jean Gray is an Omega level mutant, that is, one of the most powerful. However, at the same time, she lives in constant torment. This circumstance makes her both save the X-Men and put them in danger. Jean’s moment for her own film arrived in 2019 with X-Men: Dark Phoenixa production that revealed how, from the moment he discovered his power, the character’s life was filled with misfortunes.
15. Han Solo / Star Wars
to the universe of Star Wars it seemed unimportant to release a film of its own with a character like Han Solo, although he is present in most of the most important scenes of the original trilogy. However, the time to debut as the thread of his own feature came in 2018, when the character was played by actor Alden Ehrenreich.
16. Bumblebee / transformers
the movie series transformers has its audience very well segmented, as it is a franchise that is in charge of showing the beauty of cars and mechanics in general, mixed with science fiction. That’s why it drew attention when the images of a Bumblebee, with huge glowing eyes, aroused the viewer’s affection, getting this alien to become the protagonist of the 2018 film. This was the sixth sequel in the saga directed by Michael Bay.
