15 Unforgettable Romantic Couples From Mexican Soap Operas

The Mexican telenovela industry has already launched such unforgettable productions that they are still remembered as TV icons. Several of these dramaturgy works were marked in the hearts of fans especially by the protagonists, those couples who, from the first chapter, get involved in torrid and intense love relationships. In most cases, the lovebirds have their plans thwarted by villains full of tricks, determined to resort to the most diverse misdeeds to separate them.

1. Anahí and Alfonso Herrera (Rebel🇧🇷

It was 2004 when the soap opera Rebel It became a real rage among teenagers. Several of them wanted to dress like the protagonists, even imitating their catchphrases and ways of speaking. In the center of attention was the couple formed by Mia (Anahí) and Miguel (Alfonso Herrera). They fall in love despite the hatred nurtured by their families, in the best Romeo and Juliet style.

2. Eduardo Palomo and Mariana Levy (La pícara soñadora)

in the original version of the dreamy picara, which inspired a soap opera of the same name produced in Brazil, young Lupita López (Mariana Levy) dreams of graduating from university and getting a good job. She divides her day between working at a large department store and studying law; no one knows that Lupita and her uncle sleep in the warehouse, having nowhere to live. However, the girl’s life changes when she falls in love with a warehouse “employee”. What she doesn’t know, however, is that her lover, Carlos Pérez, is actually called Alfredo Rochild (Eduardo Palomo), son of the store’s owner. The two live a beautiful romance, remembered to this day by many viewers for the innocent, dream-like aura. The year was 1991.

3. Sergio Basañez and Silvia Navarro (when your mother🇧🇷

Those who saw it do not forget the passionate (and sometimes troubled) relationship between the famous Paloma (Silvia Navarro) and Diego Sánchez-Serrano (Sergio Basañez) in when your mother🇧🇷 The 2001 soap opera was an adaptation of a Colombian production called Coffee with a Woman’s Scent, remembered for having been very successful internationally, being rebroadcast in countries like Brazil. Despite being a version of another work, the telenovela conquered its own space in the memories of fans, especially due to the chemistry between Silvia Navarro and Sergio Basañez.

4. Fernando Colunga and Adela Noriega (Real love🇧🇷

Set in Mexico shortly after the country’s independence, Real love was a very ambitious telenovela for telling a story of the time in 2003. In the production, Matilde (Adela Noriega) falls in love with a young soldier named Adolfo (Mauricio Islas). However, the girl’s family does not allow her to marry her chosen one, demanding that Matilde seal a union with Manuel Fuentes-Guerra (Fernando Colunga), a man of means. Although the protagonist remembers the old love, little by little she begins to fall in love with her husband, creating the axis of the whole plot.

5. Eduardo Palomo and Edith González (Wild Heart🇧🇷

Wild Heart is a 1993 telenovela, starring the countess Mônica de Altamira (Edith González) and the always remembered João do Diabo (Eduardo Palomo). In the melodrama, two young countesses, Monica and Aimée (Ana Colchero), dispute the love of the bastard and firstborn son of a rich landowner: the aforementioned João do Diabo, a dark, rude and wild man. The stark contrast between the aristocratic woman and the uneducated man left the audience fascinated.

6. Victoria Ruffo and César Évora (the madrastra🇧🇷

the madrastra was produced in 2005 and brings in the central plot the tragedy of Maria Fernández da Cunha de San Román (Victoria Ruffo) and her husband, Estevão San Román (César Évora), who spend 20 years apart after Maria is accused of a murder that committed. The story showed a mature couple, different from the usual young people, who had to overcome obstacles in the name of their love.

7. Fernando Colunga and Thalia (Maria do Bairro🇧🇷

One of the most remembered telenovelas in Mexico, Brazil and several other countries is Maria do Bairro, 1995. In the story, the love of Maria (Thalía) for Luis Fernando (Fernando Colunga) goes through the most surprising problems, starting with the difference of social class and the capricious passion of a maddened cousin, going through the conspiracies of the family’s employees and by child abandonment and psychiatric problems. Everything hangs in the balance in the relationship between the poor girl and the wealthy heir. But, as always, love wins.

8. Juan Soler and Adriana Nieto (Love madness🇧🇷

The soap opera Love madness was released in 2000 and brings in its main plot the passion between a teenager and the psychologist who works at the school where she studies. The couple, played by Juan Soler and Adriana Nieto, had perfect onscreen chemistry. That’s why you can imagine the surprise of the viewers when, with a few chapters left for the end of the soap opera, the protagonist started to be played by another actress. Radical and unannounced, the move left fans stunned.

9. Verónica Castro and Guillermo Capetillo (wild rose🇧🇷

In the best Cinderella style, the soap opera wild rose it began airing in 1987. The production narrated the story of a poor young woman, named Rosa (Verónica Castro), in love with the rich young man Ricardo Linares (Guillermo Capetillo). For a change, some family members, full of bad intentions, try to interfere to separate the lovebirds. But passion prevails, as it has to be.

10. Fernando Colunga and Gabriela Spanic (The usurper🇧🇷

The usurper was a great success of 1998. The couple formed by Paulina (Gabriela Spanic) and Carlos Daniel (Fernando Colunga) was very seen on the small screen, even because it was presented in double dose: Gabriela Spanic played two roles at the same time in the production. Paulina and Paola were identical twins physically, but totally different in personality.

11. Adela Noriega and Ernesto Laguardia (Fifteen Years/My Fifteen Years🇧🇷

In 1987, a furor arose among Mexican teenagers because of the soap opera Quinceanera, broadcast in Brazil by SBT and CNT Gazeta in 1991 and 1997, respectively. The script brought up issues experienced by two young women from different social classes: Maricruz (Adela Noriega), the poor girl, and her best friend, Beatriz (Thalía), the rich. Maricruz was in love with Pancho (Ernesto Laguardia), a poor boy, but very hardworking, but his mother didn’t like the idea very much. The young couple fights for their love as preparations for Maricruz’s famous debutante party take place. We cannot deny that many young women were inspired by the characters when thinking about their own 15th birthday parties.

12. Fernando Colunga and Leticia Calderón (Emerald🇧🇷

The Mexican version of Emerald was released in 1997, telling the story of a young blind country girl named Esmeralda (Leticia Calderón) and José Armando (Fernando Colunga), the wealthy son of landowners. They were two soul mates who shared the same fate: they are born on the same day, but end up having their families switched with each other. While Esmeralda is born in the rich house, José Armando is the son of the poor family. So, when their paths cross and they fall madly in love, they begin to discover the secrets of the past involving their origins.

13. Thalía and Eduardo Capetillo (marimar🇧🇷

In 1994, Marimar premiered, the second part of the famous “Trilogía de las Marías”, starring Thalía. In the plot, Marimar is a humble and illiterate young woman who lives on the coast and falls in love with a well-to-do boy named Sergio Santibáñez (Eduardo Capetillo). The innocent love that arises between them sees no social differences, but Sergio’s ex-fiancée, not accepting to be exchanged, decides to do everything to make the couple’s life impossible. The plot takes a surprising twist when Marimar meets her father, who is a millionaire. She becomes a cultured, refined woman filled with the desire to get revenge on Sergio’s ex.

14. Adela Noriega and Rene Strickler (the privilege to love🇧🇷

In The privilege of loving, 1998 soap opera, the couple formed by Cristina (Adela Noriega) and Víctor Manuel (René Strickler) became a sensation among fans for presenting great chemistry in front of the cameras. The characters fall in love without knowing that she is the biological daughter of his stepmother. It was shown in Brazil by SBT on four occasions: in 1999, 2002, 2008 and 2013.

15. Belinda and Martín Ricca (Friends forever🇧🇷

Friends forever was a Mexican telenovela that was a huge hit with pre-teen audiences. The protagonists, Ana (Belinda) and Pedro (Martín Ricca) caught the attention of the viewers above all for the natural talent and sympathy lavished on them. The dynamics and chemistry between them were so evident that the artists gained the aura of great celebrities, reaching to sell out stadium performances. In the plot, the characters went through the difficulties typical of the transition between childhood and adolescence, without losing their joy for life or their passion for music.
