After the debut of director Darren Aronofsky’s psychological thriller, the internet was awash with different versions of the film’s meaning and interpretations of its ending. Virtually almost all of this director’s works are full of symbolism, and in Mother! it couldn’t be different. The plot is based on humanity’s degrading relationship with nature, and the film is a kind of biblical parable.

The ending of Alejandro Iñárritu’s film about the fate of the Birdman is quite confusing. In the final scene, the protagonist Riggan Thomson’s daughter enters an empty room and sees an open window, through which voices and sirens can be heard from the street. Emma Stone’s character then looks down, slowly lifts her head to the sky and smiles. Some viewers might think that this frame represents a “happy ending” and suggests that Riggan could still fly. However, most likely is that the protagonist has committed suicide for not being able to fly, and that his daughter Sam has started to hallucinate him.🇧🇷

David then understands that he is not satisfied in his dream world. The end of the film is the materialization of the protagonist’s choice: to wake up and live the rest of his life in the real world or continue living in his dream world. Almost without hesitation, David chooses the former.

At the end of Gore Verbinski’s fictional thriller, protagonist Lockhart discovers that the director of the terrifying health center is the same Swiss baron and mad scientist who was born 200 years before the events of the film and performed several bloody experiments. Heinreich Volmer managed to develop an elixir of immortality, using a special liquid produced by eels.

Lockhart, in the end, manages to defeat Volmer and escape along with his daughter Hannah. So, the protagonist finds himself finally free, however, it is possible to observe that his mental health is irreparably damaged through his somewhat strange smile.🇧🇷 He seems to understand that it is nearly impossible to resist the system and swim against the current in the modern world.

In the film’s story, ballerina Nina, played by Natalie Portman, falls in the first act of the ballet Swan Lake and runs in tears to change her clothes for the second act. In her dressing room, she meets Lily, starring Mila Kunis, who is ready to replace the protagonist’s character on stage. A fight ensues between the characters, and Nina ends up killing Lily by sticking a piece of glass in her belly. Then the protagonist hides the body in the bathroom and heads to perform the second act.

During the intermission before the third act, when Nina again returns to her dressing room, Lily alive and healthy goes to meet the protagonist to express her admiration for her. Natalie Portman then understands that she fought herself all that time in the dressing room and discovers the wound from the shard of glass in her own stomach.🇧🇷 At the end of the film, at the end of the third act, Nina falls bleeding to death in the director’s arms.
