15 Mothers-in-law Can Drive Even Someone With Nerves Of Steel

Everyone has heard at least once in their lives that a mother-in-law is like a second mother. We might think, “How is it possible for two women, united by a strong love for one person, not to get along?” However, many daughters-in-law fail to have a good relationship with their husband’s mother. Mothers-in-law on the woman’s side, by the way, are also not easy to deal with. Some sons-in-law even prefer to cut off communication to avoid yet another fight with their wife’s parents.

We, from awesome.clubwe’ve collected stories from women and men whose mothers-in-law sometimes cross the line and do things that are hard to imagine.

One acquaintance said that when she got married, her husband gave her mother the keys to their apartment—just in case. And she began to appear without notice, rearrange things in their absence, wipe the dust, in short, in every possible way show that her daughter-in-law was a bad housewife. The husband pretended not to notice anything and didn’t want to talk to his mother. The final straw was when the mother-in-law “organized” the chest of drawers, went through all her daughter-in-law’s underwear and arranged it her way, putting all the panties that looked too vulgar in a separate box, for the daughter-in-law to hide. Only after that did the husband agree that his mother had gone too far and take the keys back. © MORE.MORE / Pikabu
On January 2nd I found out that they had cut 80% of the staff at work, myself included. My husband told this to his mother. She laughed at me for being unemployed. I was silent, but then I confronted my husband. He replied that I was overreacting and that his mother just liked to play. A few months later I got a new job and my husband was fired. Then he was fired again, he was unemployed for 2 years, I covered all expenses, including the mortgage on his apartment, bought before the wedding. For some reason, my mother-in-law didn’t laugh at him. © Svetakim / AdMe
My ex-husband lived separately from his parents but was controlled by telephone. They could, for example, call at 9 pm to make a fuss about him not being home and his mother being worried—because it was dangerous! On the night of our divorce, the mother-in-law kept calling: “So, are you done already?!” In my presence alone, he received about 8 calls. © Podslushano / VK
I had a great relationship with my mother-in-law and father-in-law until my wife became pregnant with our first child. About a month before the baby was born, my mother-in-law told my wife, “If anything happens to you, I’m going to take this child.” © Cuck-Schumer / Reddit
By the will of fate and the poorly welded heating system, my mother-in-law lives in my house — since it’s cold in her apartment. It’s been three months. We live in peace, but the mother-in-law sometimes makes surprises. For example, she was upset because I decided to change the light fixture and called the electrician at a time that, according to her, was not opportune. In short, she started calling other technicians to come earlier. Without asking me. You should have seen her daughter’s face when all this happened. She told her mother that this could not be done in someone else’s house. The second electrician was canceled, the mother-in-law was offended and no longer talks to us. © pohabovandrey / Pikabu
Shortly after the wedding, I found an entire album of photos from our wedding day, in which I was cut out of each photo. © Brittney Travnick / QuoraMy mother-in-law worked in a restaurant. It was her birthday, and my husband was on a business trip. And I decided to congratulate her at work, because she worked late. I bought a gift and a huge bouquet of flowers, picked up my daughter from kindergarten, and we went to the restaurant. I went in, went to the kitchen, asked where my mother-in-law was. They replied that she was in a small hall. I went to the small hall, and there were about 15 people, her relatives and friends, including my husband’s ex-wife. I gave the gift, but deep down, I wanted to cry with resentment. Then my husband’s aunt told me to sit down and got up with the words “I’ll get the cutlery”. And my dear mother-in-law looked at her and in a commanding tone said, “No need.” Well, I wished everyone a good afternoon and left.© Svetlana Kurilova Grischko / Facebook
On one of my husband’s birthdays (I am his third wife), my mother-in-law said, in front of everyone, after my speech, that her son loved his first wife more, with whom he lived for three years. The second also loved, but less. And that I was just one more. The guests were shocked. I replied that the first two were like a test before the third happy marriage. The guests applauded. My mother-in-law offered to breastfeed my two-week-old son. Supposedly there is some kind of injection that can make a woman breastfeed again. My husband and I were offended that she had the audacity to even suggest such a thing. My husband has brothers and sisters, they also have children, and she has not suggested this to anyone else. © Housewife_**** / Reddit
My mother-in-law paid us a visit while I was at work. I came home, opened the fridge and saw a half-empty jar of red caviar (I put it in my fridge at the request of a friend, while he was on a business trip). When I asked how this happened, the answer was: “Is there still half left, isn’t it enough?” Even if it was my caviar — there are four of us, your grandchildren live here, and you come and take half without asking if it’s okay or not? © Kord12.7mm / Pikabu

My mother-in-law mispronounced my name for months and refused to call me any of the nicknames I suggested because it was too difficult for her. When my nephew (about 2 years old) got my name right on the first try, I mentioned it to my mother-in-law and she finally stopped getting my name wrong. © moonbeam2007 / Twitter

My mother-in-law says she doesn’t like the name we chose for our second child. She insists on telling me that it is too “simple”. At the same time, she named her son Miguel. © twchywtchygrl / Twitter

My husband and I went to the hospital for the delivery. Second child. My mother-in-law stayed at home with our eldest son. We left at night and came back in the morning with a baby. As soon as we enter the house, the mother-in-law asks my husband: “How are you?” And I think: “Could it be that he gave birth?” She stayed with us for about an hour and didn’t ask me anything. © Olga Weber / Facebook
In family photos, my mother-in-law covered my face with sticky notes. There are pictures hanging in the hallway of her house, and over the years, in every picture, my face is covered with a small piece of yellow paper. © Kandy Hunt / Quora
We went on vacation with our 1.5 and 3 year old children. Both grandmothers and one grandfather came to our house, cut all the corners of the tables so that the children would not bump when running. And to make the cut table corners look good, they covered them with varnish, it turned out great. As soon as we got back we got the keys. Now, if we travel, I leave the keys with a friend so she can feed the cats. For some reason, the grandmothers were upset… © anka3000 / Pikabu
