14 Villains So Charismatic, They Ended Up Stealing Viewers’ Hearts

It is very likely that many people have a favorite villain in movies and series, despite their pranks and even evil. Recently, scientists conducted a study to find out why many people sympathize with such characters, and came to the conclusion that they end up recognizing some parts of themselves in them. For example, Petyr Baelish’s cunning and Professor Moriarty’s high intellect are attractive to those who recognize such traits in themselves. And finally, watching these characters on the big screen gives the viewer the opportunity to put themselves in the villain’s shoes and see what the possible outcomes of this might be.

We, from awesome.club, we recognize that sometimes it is quite difficult to resist the charm of some villains. With that in mind, we selected 14 malefactors who won over viewers and analyzed some of their characteristics. Follow!

The Phantom of the Opera (2004)

Many viewers were quite confused, putting themselves in the shoes of the protagonist of the film and thinking about how she would be able to choose between Viscount Raoul de Chagny and Erick, the ghost. Sure, the viscount is a good-looking guy, but he loses in many ways to the resourceful villain, even if he hides the disfigured half of his face under a mask.

Gladiator (2000)

game of Thrones (2011–2019)

For nine years, game of Thrones — one of the most popular TV series of modernity — has provided us with a series of unforgettable characters. Ned Stark, for example, was marked as the noblest and most honest hero in history. However, it was his enemy Petyr Baelish (nicknamed Littlefinger), who ended up winning greater admiration from viewers. And for many people, this amazing strategist, whose true goals are difficult to predict, became their favorite character in the series.

Hard to kill (1988)

The main villain of the plot of Hard to kill, played by Alan Rickman, is extremely intelligent, elegant and demonstrates an impressive calm. It is difficult not to notice, perhaps fall in love with, a person with such characteristics. Of course, the hero, played by Bruce Willis, is also quite charming, but not as attractive as his nemesis.

The Mummy (1999)

Brendan Fraser as a plucky adventurer isn’t bad at all, but the resurrected Egyptian priest Imhotep certainly stole the spotlight for himself, after all, his charm and ancient wisdom are undeniably attractive. Other than that, the fact that all the evil done by him is in the name of his love for a woman makes everything even more convincing.

X-Men: First Class (2011)

Twilight (2008)

Even though Robert Pattinson’s character has stolen the hearts of thousands of viewers around the world, many people haven’t failed to notice that the main villain of the franchise’s first film is none the less attractive. In fact, his role as an evil vampire gave him even more charm. Moreover, this character paved the way for other big projects in the career of actor Cam Gigandet.

sherlock (2010–2017)

It is impossible not to admire a person who is able to compete intellectually with Sherlock Holmes himself. And even if his intentions are far from fair, the elegant British anti-hero with an incredible intellect is capable of winning over anyone. Actor Andrew Scott managed to portray Jim Moriarty so well, that viewers simply fell in love with the character.

The Patriot (2000)

In contrast to the image of the brave hero played by Mel Gibson, actor Jason Isaacs brings to life the very personification of evil in Colonel William. Audiences certainly don’t side with such malevolent characters, but their strong anti-heroic “charisma” probably stuck in the minds of many viewers. By the way, Jason Isaacs also played another famous movie villain: Lucius Malfoy, in the franchise Harry Potter.

young witches (1998–2006)

The skin I live (2011)

In the feature, Antonio Banderas appears in a somewhat unusual role – as the master of plastic surgery, Doctor Robert Ledgard, who performs illegal medical experiments on people. And let’s face it, Banderas’ performance is breathtaking. The character’s unshakable calm in the face of his actions and bad intentions leaves the viewer no choice but to be trapped in his charm.

batman and robin (1997)

An exceptional superhero, of course, calls for a worthy antagonist. In this feature, the Batman villain is Mr. Cold, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, and despite his desire to freeze the whole world, the viewer ends up getting involved in the character’s story. After all, all his actions are motivated by the desire to bring his beloved back to life.

Django Unchained (2012)

Director Quentin Tarantino usually does not create an explicit division between good and bad characters: his heroes are not free from sins, just as villains are capable of actions that are not characteristic of them. But still there are evil characters that caught the attention of viewers. And a good example is Calvin Candie, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, who is certainly remembered by everyone who watched the feature.

Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

One of the greatest actors of our time, Gary Oldman acted so brilliantly in the image of a vampire, which did not leave much room for the then young Keanu Reeves. And it’s not surprising that even the protagonist couldn’t resist the charm of this extremely charming villain.
