14 Movies We’re Waiting Avidly for the 1st Half of 2019

The year 2019 has already provided us with many great films and it looks like it will continue to surprise viewers. This year we are expecting several versions of legendary cartoons, many superhero productions, the end of The Avengers and at least two biographical dramas.

O awesome.club decided to make a compilation of 14 films from different genres that we are looking forward to seeing this first half. It should be noted that some productions on our list were presented to the public last year, however film fans in much of the world are still waiting for their release.

1. 90’s

The action takes place in Los Angeles in the mid-90s: teenagers listen to music with the Walkman, ride a skateboard and watch MTV. In the film, you’ll see a few days in the life of Stevie, 13, who is at an adult skater’s party and trying to prove her mettle by doing one crazy thing after another. It seems that he himself does not realize that he is moving in the wrong direction.

It is an American comedy-drama written and directed by Jonah Hill in his directorial debut.

When premieres: premiered in the US on October 19, 2018 and is scheduled for May in Brazil.

2. The Beach Bum

A party animal and poet nicknamed Moondog is trying to write a book of poetry, otherwise he won’t get his inheritance. However, all he cares about are the endless beach parties and alcohol. Also, Moondog has an uncanny ability to get into all kinds of trouble, so it looks like he’s going to run out of inheritance.

The film adapts perfectly to the summer environment. Furthermore, it has Matthew McConaughey playing an unusual role.

When premieres: from March 29th.

4. Shazam!

Shazam! is a magic word that transforms a teenager into a grown man and, moreover, a superhero named Shazam. However, inside he is still a 14-year-old boy and behaves like any teenager who has acquired superpowers: he tries to fly, shoot lightning and do other amazing things. Of course, as with any superhero movie, there is a villain that must be defeated by Shazam. To do so, he needs to learn to control his abilities and believe in himself.

Judging by the trailer, we’re expecting a great comedy with a very charismatic protagonist.

When premieres: from April 5th.

5. Cursed Graveyard

A film version of the Stephen King novel about a young family who move to a small town with their cat. In the immediate vicinity of his house there is not only a busy road, but also an ancient Indian pet cemetery. According to legend, this cemetery is capable of resurrecting the dead. One day, the family’s pet cat is killed by a truck and buried there.

Interestingly, there aren’t many successful versions of Stephen King’s novels, and this new film version (the first one is from 1989) wants to do it differently.

When premieres: from March 16th.

6. The Literary Society and the Potato Skin Pie

In 1941, during World War II, a German patrol arrested four friends for violating the curfew on the island of Guernsey. To avoid arrest, they say they are returning from a literary club called “The Literary Society and Potato Peel Pie”. About 5 years later, Juliet Ashton, a young writer from London, accidentally receives a letter from Dawsey Adams, one of the four members of the “club”. They become pen pals and soon Juliet goes to the island to meet everyone.

The film is based on the 2008 novel of the same name.

When premieres: premiered in England on April 20, 2018.

7. The White Crow

The story of legendary Russian dancer Rudolf Nureyev. In 1961, he went to Paris on tour and refused to return to the USSR, seeking asylum in the West. Thus he becomes the first Soviet artist not to return to his country. Abroad, Nureyev finds new fans and friends, but loses touch with his homeland and family.

This is a great joint project between France and England, starring Russian dancer Oleg Ivenko. The director of the film is the famous British actor Ralph Fiennes.

When premieres: premiered in the US on August 31, 2018.

8. Avengers: Endgame

The surviving Avengers team and their allies are trying to devise a clever new plan that should thwart the destructive designs of the Titan Thanos. It seems that a big fateful battle cannot be avoided.

Even if you’re not a huge Avengers fan, you’ll probably be interested to know how this epic will end. In addition, it is not known when there will be another opportunity to simultaneously see such stars as Bradley Cooper, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson and others on the screen at the same time.

When premieres: from April 26th.

9. The Cheaters

It is a remake of the 1988 comedy, in “female version”. At the heart of the plot is the story of two female scammers who seduce and then take money from men. In this case, the girls perfectly complement each other, and it seems that it is simply impossible to resist their tricks. This time they are looking for an innocent genius of digital technology.

A brilliant comedy with a great acting duo, Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway.

When premieres: from May 9th.

10. Five Feet From You

Stella and Will are in love, but due to a very serious illness that threatens their lives, they cannot get closer than five feet, this is the hospital’s strict rule. Breaking all restrictions, young people try to overcome an invisible obstacle, since love is stronger than any boundaries.

It is an American drama and romance film.

When premieres: from March 15th.

11. Light of My Life

The world was affected by a terrible epidemic and as a result, most women died and men unleashed real anarchy on Earth. 11-year-old Reg is one of the few survivors. Now she and her father are forced to roam the world and pretend that she is a boy in order to survive in this new world.

This is Casey Affleck’s first post-apocalyptic drama, which received mostly positive reviews at the Berlin Film Festival.

When premieres: from February 8th.

12. Unlikely Couple

Political journalist Fred Flarsky has been in love since childhood with his lovely nanny Charlotte Field. After 25 years, they meet by chance, and Fred discovers that she has become one of the most powerful and richest women in the world. His former feelings regain their strength and Fred finally decides to confess his love to Charlotte.

The film is worth seeing if only for the extraordinary duo of Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron.

When premieres: from the 3rd of May.

13. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

After being successful in a television series, the main character Rick Dalton is trying to break into the world of cinema at any cost. At the same time, his stunt double is trying to do the same. Meanwhile, the terrible events related to the sect of Charles Manson take place in the city. Soon, the wife of the famous director Roman Polanski becomes a victim of the sect.

If you were missing the thrillers by Quentin Tarantino, so you can’t miss Once Upon a Time in Hollywood🇧🇷 In addition, the director assembled an excellent team: the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie.

14. In Fabric

A little red dress appears in a London shop window. It’s incredibly beautiful and perfect for anyone who tries it out. In addition, it makes its owner desirable and irresistible. But, like everything else in the world, the dress has its price, and for someone it can be too high.

Incredibly stylish and atmospheric horror English film.

When premieres: premiered in Canada on September 13, 2018.
